Gary O’Rourke Retires

Thirty-five years ago a young man took a custodial job at his old grade school, little dreaming that one day he would retire from that same place!  On October 31 Gary O’Rourke will retire as the longest-serving staff member of Trinity ever (passing up even people like Pastor Kunze, 30 years, and Jean Prochnow, our Kindergarten teacher for 33 years).  We’ll be celebrating Gary’s 35 years of service with a reception and a gift on November 3 (details to follow, but put that on your calendar, please!).  If Gary’s ministry here has touched your life, you’re invited to participate in the gift by making a contribution.  You can either put something in the offering plate marked “Gary’s Retirement” or bring your gift to the church/school office.  Please contribute by Sunday, October 27 so that we can make the purchase.

Operation Gratitude

Did you know that November 1 begins a short time span for turning in your Halloween trick or treat candy for cash? That’s right! Some dentists are paying $1.00 per pound for your candy and then sending it to the military personnel overseas through the Operation Gratitude program. Our school offering for the month of October is to support this program. Wow! Share your candy, prevent cavities, and get paid! Call your dentist and see if he or she is participating.

Trinity Shares Christmas

We are getting ready for our sixth annual Trinity Shares Christmas project! We will once again work with Angel Tree Ministries to provide Christmas gifts to the children of incarcerated parents, along with food to the caregivers for a Christmas dinner. If you would like to share Christmas joy, please take one or more ornaments and return the requested item (unwrapped) with the ornament by November 24. If you are interested in helping with the coordination of this program, which would include contacting caregivers to obtain gift information, or if you have any questions, please contact Glenda Frazier at whitemice@bellsouth.net

A Message from our District President

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Greetings in the glorious name of our Savior, Jesus Christ!

As we enter into the month of October it is a time of many celebrations in the life of a parish. Not the least of these is Reformation at the end of October. However, in recent years it has become a part of the culture of nation, even in a post-church world, to recognize National Clergy Appreciation Month. Many congregations will designate a specific Sunday to show appreciation to their pastoral staff. The National Day is Sunday, October 13, 2013.

Burnout among clergy continues to increase at an alarming rate. Many pastors say they feel overwhelmed by the issues that ministry in our day bring. So many faithful men quietly work day in and day out for the sake of the Gospel, never asking for a lot, but willing to be a servant of Jesus Christ. Most of us can think of a time when in a time of crisis or need our pastor was there for us. Now you have an opportunity to be there for them. Let me urge you to recognize National Clergy Appreciation Month, either with a special recognition Sunday or with little events throughout the month. As you invest in this ministry of encouragement you will strengthen your ministry partnerships and give your pastor a much needed boost of energy, excitement and a sense of worth to your ministry. We read in Hebers 13:17, “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” (Hebrews 13:17 NIV)

You can make a huge difference in the life of a shepherd with little effort simply by publicly recognizing and thanking your pastor for his service. Let me encourage you to do this for the sake of the Gospel, and put it on the calendar for the years ahead. I have attached a simple worksheet I came across that may give you some additional ideas. You can search the internet and get all sorts of great and inspiring thoughts.

Let’s support our pastors and ask God’s blessings to be upon them. Thanks for your partnership in this endeavor.

Peace in our Shepherd Jesus,

Rev. Gregory S. Walton,
President – Florida-Georgia District

October Chapel Offering

For the Month of October, we will be collecting various items for our military. Many of these things will simply be fun things for wounded soldiers and military people who are far away from home. To show our appreciation for them, beginning next week, we will be asking students to bring various items each week to chapel. We will give them a little handout, so they know what to bring.

Then, in November, for Veteran’s Day we will be donating our collection to OPERATION GRATITUDE who will ship them to the military wherever they might be.
