Walk on March 8 for Type 1 Diabetes

There are many people who are unaware of that Type 1Diabetes (T1D) is a serious autoimmune disease that only afflicts children from birth through early twenties. It strikes suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. In our Trinity School, we currently have five students diagnosed with this disease.  Every day these children must test their blood sugar four to five times and account (actually count carbohydrates) in everything they consume.  What this means is the children (or caregivers) manually work for the pancreas because it isn’t working at all. In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food.  There is no cure for T1D.  The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) strives to achieve the goal of our world without T1D.  You can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D by donating at http://www.walk.jdrf.org   Orlando/UCG  Walk Team Blue Thunder.  For more information contact Jamie Erpenbach at fiveerps@gmail.com or 407-730-7368

New Group for Young Women

If you are between the ages of 21 and 40, this is the group for you.  Doesn’t matter if you are single, married, married with children, or single with children, you are part of the group.  This is an LWML Young Women Group called LIPS (Ladies in Purple who Serve).  The group will offer you new friendships and opportunities to serve that work around your busy life.  This announcement is in the Trinity news, but this group will be women from all over the Orlando area as other churches are participating in LIPS.  So what if you are a working mom!   This group is for you.  Do you spend most of your week shuttling kids here and there?  This group is for you.  Wish you had someone to hang out with once and a while?  This group is for you!   There are several upcoming events that you can participate in, for more info, please Contact Jamie Erpenbach at lipsofeastorlando@gmail.com

Great savings plan for your child!

The Lutheran Church Extension Fund is offering a savings plan for children under 18 that yields a 3.5% interest rate on the first $1000!  It can be opened for as little as $25.  There is no requirement for on-going monthly deposits.  It is a terrific way to begin a savings account for a young person.  In addition, it assists Trinity with its CDC building plan that is funded through LCEF.  For more information please contact Bruce Hahn at bruce@mm-c.com or 407-292-8300.  Thanks!

 Re-Enrollments are Due!

We asked that re-enrollment forms were turned into the school office by January 31st.  On February 1st Open Enrollment for outside families began.  By turning in your re-enrollment form as soon as possible, it helps the K-8 program build their budget for the 2014-2015 school year in addition to securing your child’s spot for the next school year.  Thank you for your support of our program!

Jeans Day on February 25

Trinity is partnering with “Team Blue Thunder” to raise funds to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes by having a Jeans Day in celebration of Alexander Erpenbach’s 13th Birthday on Tuesday, February 25. You can pay $2.00 and wear a blue shirt and jeans! Blue is the official color of JDRF.    Alexander is seventh grade and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011.  There are four other children in our school diagnosed with this serious autoimmune disease.  In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.  On March 8,2014 Alex and members of his family will Walk to Cure Diabetes. You can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D by joining our efforts and donating at http://www.walk.jdrf.org   Orlando/UCG  Walk Team Blue Thunder.
