Collecting this Weekend: Food and Funds on the Fifth Sunday
Trinity is collecting donated food funds this weekend -- food donations are given to local ministries, and funds go to the Pastor's discretionary fund to assist those in financial crisis. This month's recipient of food donations will be The Good Samaritans. Thank you for your donations!

Thank You!  Servant Saturday Was a Huge Success
Despite some very warm weather, it was a wonderful morning of service and fellowship! Trinity volunteers gathered together to do some much needed fall cleaning of the tutoring and tech trailer at Rebecca's Garden of Hope at Our Savior! (A second event will be coming up next year to finish the final touches). A huge transformation was accomplished after this half day of hard work both inside and outside the trailer. Great food was enjoyed by all - both volunteers and a group of kids from RGOH who were there also for Saturday tutoring program. We had Boars-head hot dogs and a whole bunch of amazing homemade dishes made by volunteers & contributors.  THANKS to all who participated! These children desperately need the love, guidance, friendship, and support from RGOH, Our Savior and Trinity Lutheran Church. Thanks for being part of such a wonderful service and outreach opportunity! Enjoy photos from the blog post .

School Ministry Update
Dr. Kevin Brockberg has received and accepted a call to serve as Superintendent of Indiana Lutheran Schools for the Indiana District. He has asked us for a peaceful release of his call serving as Executive Director of Trinity's K-8 program. Susan, his wife, one of our middle school teachers, has also tendered her resignation to join her husband in Indiana. We wish and pray for the Lord to bless the Brockbergs in their new ministry assignment.

Reverend John Rallison will be our new middle school teacher.  He is an LCMS pastor living in the Orlando area and has a background in math, science and religion.  He is a gifted teacher and had in the past, taught at the Orlando Lutheran Academy.

There have been a lot of changes recently to our K-8 school ministry.  We assure you that Trinity Lutheran School is moving forward under the direction of Dr. Beverly Middleton, our Acting K-8 Executive Director, and the blessing of Almighty God. We are thankful for our mighty, dedicated and hardworking teaching and administrative staff. There may be some unanswered questions or concerns, if so, please feel free to contact Pastor Doug at Doug.Kallesen@TrinityDowntown.com or Dr. Middleton at Bev.Middleton@TrinityDowntown.com  to set up a time to speak with either of us.

Can You Contribute a Portion of a Meal for Tutoring with RGOH?
Every fourth Wednesday, Trinity is signed up to tutor and provide a hot meal.  There are six (or more) regular Trinity volunteers on hand for tutoring along with some college students.  You can participate by helping with tutoring or preparing/providing a portion of the meal for that evening.  You can just drop off your dish at Trinity's Magnolia building and a volunteer will even deliver it to Our Savior for you. The next meal is Wednesday, October 24: Chili. The last few items needed are:
  • two large dishes of white rice and
  • two large packets of cheese.
Additional volunteers are always welcome! There is something for everyone. Anywhere from tutoring, fixing a hot dish/vegetables/dessert, to serving and cleaning up. We usually wrap up by 8pm. Any questions? Please contact Terry Boggs at mammierocks@yahoo.com.

LWML Sunday
Trinity is celebrating LWML Sunday in all the services October 6th and 7th. It is a standing tradition for LWML quilters to display some of the completed quilts which will be shipped to a central location in February 2018. They are then sent to many different countries where there has been natural or man-made disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, and wars with resulting refugees.  We do a simple, serviceable tied quilt which can be used as temporary tent shelters, sleeping warmth and even temporary clothing when there is nothing else. We also gift money in the form of grants to go to the mission field where it is most needed. Any loose change you donate in the LWML Mite Box in the Narthex will be combined with other LWML groups and is sent monthly to the District. Thank you for your generous donations of mites and material.

How are YOU Gifted - Where Can YOU Serve
Trinity's children and youth Sunday morning Bible classes have started out on such a positive note. We've had over 30 in attendance and everyone seems very energized as they gather together to learn about our Savior. In order to keep our promise of having flexibility for our teachers, we still need to find ONE MORE teacher for this quarter: 1st grades. THANK YOU to those who signed for VPK and Youth!  If we are able to form teams of three teachers per class, then each teacher will have an assistant on most of the Sundays that they teach, plus they will be able to take a Sunday off for family events or travel. Remember that we do have training available. If you enjoy sharing the Word of God (and you don't have to be a theologian to do this) and are invested in seeing that the next generations know about the real presence of a loving God in their lives, then this ministry might be just for you.  Please contact Julia Malenke if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer to teach: jmalenke@trinitydowntown.com

Serving Through Singing
Our Trinity Parish Choir is a small but enthusiastic group of people who have a love for singing to and about God.  The choir exists not to perform or entertain, but to enhance the worship service and hopefully to bring us all one step closer to Jesus through music.  We are working on some beautiful pieces that will be heard over the next few months; however, we need more singers! We realize that due to illness, work schedules, and other life problems, not everyone can attend every practice and every service at which we sing - so, in order to continue singing regularly, we need enough voices to cover all parts when there are absences.  We welcome all voices (and all ages from teens on up), but we especially need sopranos, tenors, and basses. If you enjoy singing, please take a moment to pray about serving God through singing in the choir. We practice from 7:30 - 8:30pm every Wednesday in the sanctuary balcony. To ensure gate access for rehearsals or if you have any questions, please contact Paul at sooster67@yahoo.com or Glenda at whitemice@bellsouth.net.

For those of you who cannot climb the steps to the balcony and/or drive at night and/or just want to sing, how about singing with the First Floor Once-In-A-While Choir? The FFOIAWC will be singing at the 11am service this Sunday, September 16.  We will warm up and practice prior to the service at 10:15am in the middle loggia classroom. We sing right before the Gospel, so you will be able to sit with your family for most of the service. All voices and ages are welcome!

Please let us know!
Please let your Trinity family know of any scheduled surgery or hospital stay.  In addition to scheduled procedures, please give the church office a call to let us know about extended illness, unplanned hospital stays, or even the birth of a child.  You can call the office at any time and leave a message-no need to wait until business hours (407-488-1919 x101). During business hours, that information can then be forwarded to the appropriate caregivers. For an emergency that requires the care of a Pastor after hours or over the weekend call or text us at 407-490-7339 and leave a message. We'll get back to you ASAP. We want to be sure to know when you need us-whether to pray with you before a scheduled procedure, sit with you during a loved one's procedure, pray for you while you recover, visit you in the hospital/at home or to share praise and thanksgiving prayers for good news/results. Just let us know.  Thank you.

Urgent Prayer Requests
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to Pray@TrinityDowntown.com .  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.
