Growth Family Night Next Sunday Evening

The first GFN at Trinity was a great success.  Our families made a delicious and healthy dinner together, the cooking lesson was provided by Trinity’s own chef Carmen Ramiz.  Megan Miessler talked to families about staying spiritually healthy, and Emma Moser Schulte, Director of Wellness for the Winter Park YMCA discussed how important it is for families to eat healthy and exercise together.  While the food cooked Alena, Membership Director for the Winter Park YMCA, taught a family Zumba class.  Parents and children danced together and then had a dance off.  The kids won...of course.  We hope more of you can join us for next months Growth event, Sunday, October  12th.  for more information, contact Josh Brink at jabrink@trinitydowntown.org

Just For Women Thank you

It is wonderful to hear from some of you with updated or new email addresses.  If you haven’t done so yet, please send me your preferred email address so I may include you in the emailings I periodically send to every Trinity woman.  Part of my ministry to Trinity church and school is to coordinate activities and information of specific interest to women.  You can read about Supper and a Speaker and  Lutheran Women in Mission projects in these news pages, but there is more information sent in the personal notices.  If you have NEVER received a women only email message from me (one was sent last week) and would like to, please send me your email address. - Deaconess Liz eborth@trinitydowntown.org

LUNCH and a Speaker

Trinity’s quarterly Supper and a Speaker events is taking on a new theme this Fall.  On SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8, we share LUNCH and a Speaker!  The luncheon actually starts with a light breakfast (hold on!  I’m not trying to confuse you) at 8:30 a.m. followed by a worship service and Bible study.  The active and spirited women from seven churches east of Orlando gather that morning for LWML unity.  However, if your schedule crunches your time so a four hour escape is difficult, come and share a delightful lunch and interesting speaker at 11:30 a.m. An $8.00 charge covers your meal and our guest speaker from House of Hope.  Sarah Trollinger founded the nationally recognized House of Hope for hurting teens right here in Orlando in 1980.  We are pleased to welcome Karla Mathis, Executive Director of House of Hope, who will share this ministry of love and restoration. But there is more!  During the lunch you will enjoy a "Purse Auction."  Designer, and other new or gently used purses have been donated to raise funds for three mission projects.  The fun part is what is inside those purses: A SECRET SURPRISE.  You will bid on the purse and find a valuable gift inside!  Contact MaryLou Evanchyk 407-275-8096.

Middle School Youth Gathering

November 7-9, 2014 - Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center

This year all the churches in both Florida & Georgia will attend and Bill Yonker will be our speaker.  The Living Stones will be returning as our Gathering band. The registration fee remains at $140.

-  Who can register?

The Gathering specifically targets middle school youth. To register, a youth must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year. Non-LCMS youth are certainly welcome to attend also!

-  What is a Junior Guide?

A junior guide is a high school youth who shows leadership skills and would be a tremendous asset to any youth director taking his/her youth group. Two junior guides are allowed for each church. They will be given specific responsibilities and opportunities for leadership training.

-  Adult/Participant Ratio

For safety we require that each church provide 1 adult leader for every 6 attendees under the age of 18.

The event cost covers all program and administrative costs, two nights lodging, four meals, and a t-shirt for each participant. Keep your eye out for more information – coming soon!!

Please contact Lori Zavitz at 407-718-6184 or at lorizavitz@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

Two New Programs for the CDC

Trinity Lutheran School's Child Development Center is very excited to be starting two very exciting programs.  CDC Director, Patty Moser,  has been keeping you informed about the Nemours/Center for Disease Control Healthy Habits Collaborative in which we will be participating.  It begins next week and several of our staff members will be involved in learning how to bring these policies and practices to our program.  The second is the Quality Rating Improvement System or QRIS.  Several years ago we participated in the pilot program and the State has decided to adopt it for all centers.  It has been very popular in other states and has shown substantial results.  The goal of the QRIS are:

  • Enhance program quality
  • Improve child well-being
  • Support parents in their choice of quality

The QRIS begins with establishing a baseline score for the center which is derived from 6 areas for improvement. Those areas are as follows:

  • Learning environment
  • Staff qualifications and professional development
  • Staff to child ratios
  • Curriculum
  • Family engagement
  • Program administration

Look for updates, the next one will be our initial baseline score results.

Hard Work for Trinity Lutheran School Teachers!

While it was hard work in some respects,  this week’s President’s Convocation of the Florida-Georgia District had elements of fun and renewal for the teachers.  From worship, to speakers, teacher-to-teacher sharing sessions, a 5K Fun Run, an anniversary banquet, and even a teachers’ shopping mall, Trinity teachers interacted with old friends, encountered new friends, and interfaced with education experts from across the nation.  Professional workshops teachers attended included:

  • Through the Bible in One Hour
  • Storytelling
  • Technology Tools for the Classroom
  • Joy in Ministry
  • The Power of Coaching
  • ABC’s of Student Behavioral Change
  • Living in Balance
  • Experiencing Science

Under the theme of Renewal from the Inside-Out, our K-8 teachers returned refreshed and retooled for leading the learning community at Trinity in the months ahead.
