 Traffic on October 26th

When you come to church on Reformation Day, October 26th, there will be a detour if you drive up Rosalind Avenue.  You’ll have to turn right on Robinson, then left on Broadway and left on Livingston to get to the parking garage.  We’ve talked with the Festival Callé Orange promoters, and they tell us the detour will be clearly marked, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting here.  Please do leave home 5 minutes early that day, though!

Big Plans and Little Details

On Saturday, November 8, Supper and a Speaker is adjusting time and theme to Lunch and a Speaker.  The event starts at 8:30 a.m.with a light breakfast, Bible study, communion worship, and LWML business. But, if your schedule won’t allow a four hour escape, you are most welcome to come and share lunch and TWO (bonus!) speakers at 11:00am.  An $8.00 charge covers your meal and our guest speaker from House of Hope and Meals on Wheels.  But there is more, and this is the best part!  During the lunch you will enjoy a "Purse Auction."  Designer, and other new or gently used purses have been donated to raise funds for three mission projects.  The fun part is what is inside those purses: A SECRET SURPRISE.  You will bid on the purse and find a valuable gift inside!  We are pleased to welcome Karla Mathis, Executive Director of House of Hope a nationally recognized home for hurting teens founded by Sarah Trollinger right here in Orlando, who will share this ministry of love and restoration. AND BONUS!  Another speaker will talk about Meals on Wheels operation.  Holiday gift baskets from LCMS Orlando area churches have been prepared for presentation to Meals on Wheels.  For more information, contact MaryLou Evanchyk at 407-275-8096.

Hymn Festival at Redeemer Lutheran

Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sanford invites you to our Hymn Festival and Organ Dedication on Saturday, November 8th beginning at 4pm.  “From Beginning to the End: Let There Be Light” takes us from Genesis to Revelation through hymns and readings and reminds us that Jesus Christ is our true Light! The organ, a Rodgers 3 manual Artist Series, will be played by Maestro David Ludwig. Come and celebrate with us on this glorious occasion! Wine and cheese reception will follow.

Trinity Shares Christmas

It’s time for our seventh annual Trinity Shares Christmas project!  We will partner once again with Angel Tree Ministries to help incarcerated parents provide Christmas gifts to their children and food to the children’s caregivers. We are hoping to have our Christmas tree up by November 1, and this year we will make sure that there are ornaments on the tree at every service!  Each angel ornament will contain a gift, food, or donation request. Please take one or more ornaments and return the requested item (unwrapped, please) with the ornament by November 30.

This year we are assigned 20 children in our neighborhood.  We have several very short-term volunteer opportunities to help make this program a success. If you can make a few initial phone calls to the caregiver and verify the type of gift to deliver on behalf of mom or dad; or if you can sort food items for the meal Trinity traditional supplies if desired; or if you can drive and deliver gifts and groceries to one or two families; or if you would like to help in any other way, or have any questions about Trinity Shares Christmas, please contact Glenda Frazier at whitemice@bellsouth.net.

“Lord, teach us to pray”....for our children

Jesus’ disciples asked for help with prayer because they saw a difference between their ritual prayers and the relationship-building conversation Jesus had with God our Father.  Let’s turn our focus from “me” to “We” and pray for our school.  Each day set aside one minute to stop and prayer for safety, health, and peace for our children and teachers.  www.momsinprayer.org. Receive a short prayer every day for your child and school!!

Did you go to FSU?

University Lutheran, the campus ministry at Florida State University, is seeking to develop an alumni network that is specifically focused on helping new graduates from FSU become acclimated to the new cities they find themselves in after graduation, inluding helping them find new home churches.  If you’re an FSU alumni at a Lutheran church, you are a “LutherNole” and we want to give you the opportunity to help other young “LutherNoles”.  To get involved or find out more, please send an email to matt@universitylutehranchurch.org.  Thanks.

Join LSF to Support Ministry on #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global movement to celebrate and support ministry in your community. It will culminate with a day of giving on December 2nd. This effort transforms how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday is meant to inspire people of faith to take action to improve their local communities and help create a better world. Lutheran Services Florida is participating in #GivingTuesday this year and our prayer is that you will take this opportunity to partner with us to bring God’s healing, hope and help to people in need in the name of Jesus Christ.

Registration Due now for Middle School Youth Gathering

November 7-9, 2014 - Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center

This year all the churches in both Florida & Georgia will attend and Bill Yonker will be our speaker.  The Living Stones will be returning as our Gathering band. The registration fee remains at $140.

-  Who can register?

The Gathering specifically targets middle school youth. To register, a youth must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year. Non-LCMS youth are certainly welcome to attend also!

-  What is a Junior Guide?

A junior guide is a high school youth who shows leadership skills and would be a tremendous asset to any youth director taking his/her youth group. Two junior guides are allowed for each church. They will be given specific responsibilities and opportunities for leadership training.

-  Adult/Participant Ratio

For safety we require that each church provide 1 adult leader for every 6 attendees under the age of 18.

The event cost covers all program and administrative costs, two nights lodging, four meals, and a t-shirt for each participant. Keep your eye out for more information – coming soon!!

Please contact Lori Zavitz at 407-718-6184 or at lorizavitz@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

Halloween at Trinity

Take some time with your family to talk about the roots of this holiday, just as teachers will prepare students all week long to celebrate “All God’s Creatures” on Friday, October 31.   Talk anytime; perhaps in the evening while getting dressed up for going out, or on the ride home from school, maybe on the weekend when you have some time together at home.  Help kids understand and process all the scary ghosts and zombies that folks have around their homes.  Need more background to be comfortable about the conversation?  Click here for a Halloween Blog from Pastor Billy at http://school.trinitydowntown.com/happy-reform-all-hallow-een/  As with every holiday in the church, All-Saint’s Eve (All Hallows Eve – Halloween) is about Jesus.  With Him by our sides and in our hearts we have nothing to fear.  Halloween should always be a celebration of this!
