From Pastor Martin

What a week!  Fall Festival, this evening, on Friday, October 23 —  hope you have a chance to enjoy the food, the fellowship, and all the fun!  Lots of people did lots of work to put it all together, at the same time as dozens of volunteers have been staffing Pumpkin Patch in front of the loggia classrooms (details in a separate articles), while many more were preparing to use our 10’x20’ display space on Magnolia Ave. for the Calle Orange Festival this Sunday, October 25.  (check the map of road closures so you get to Sunday worship on time)

Now comes the best part: We are blessed to have Pastor Billy Brath with us for all our Sunday services October 25, as he returns to preach God’s Word and tell us about his ministry at LiveUCF.  Please give him a warm welcome and lots of encouragement as the the LiveUCF Gala comes up on Saturday, Nov. 14.

We’re celebrating the 498th anniversary of the Reformation this weekend.  Remember to wear REFORMATION RED as we recall all those events that launched with Martin Luther’s posting of the 95 Theses in Wittenberg Germany October 31, 1517.  It’s all about reclaiming the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ.  What a perfect occasion for some of our first-year confirmands to start receiving the Lord’s Supper with their families and literally “taste” the Gospel of Christ’s forgiveness as they receive His body and blood.  It was great to be able to share some Reformation/Martin Luther history and hymns in chapel this week.

By the way, www.LutheranReformation.org is the website the LCMS just launched with lots of resources in preparation for the 500th Anniversary in 1517. Check it out.  And while you’re at it, check out the Pastor’s Blog about the history behind Halloween and All Saints Day (Nov. 1), and some suggestions for parents to use the secular celebration of Halloween to do some teaching about the truth of God’s Word.

Next weekend (Oct 31/Nov 1), we’ll be consecrating the stained glass window donated in memory of Pastor Ron Fink in all services.  God-willing, his widow, Millie will be with us.  She’s looking forward to seeing all of you!  Yes, we are gathering for worship Saturday, October 31st at 6 PM!  Understandably, some folks may have to shift to Sunday morning, but as a congregation, what a great witness – we gather on All Hallows Eve to remember all God’s “saints” who are now with Jesus in glory!

Please, don’t forget about signing up for the Regional Outreach Conference Friday & Saturday, November 13-14, and mark Sunday, November 15, 11 am on your calendar to welcome Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Greg Seltz as our guest preacher and visit with everyone in the reception that follows.

You Take the Cake

This week, the ladies of Trinity’s Supper & Speaker celebrate LWML month with a cake for Sunday Coffee Hour.  Your free will offering will support scholarships for our Trinity school students, for the women of Trinity attending LWML conventions and retreats, and to fund the annual shipping cost of 65-75 quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

What’s With the Washtub?

Weekend worshippers may have wondered why there is a washtub and washboard on display in the narthex.  The LWML women ask you to bring full size bars of soap and fill the tub.  These bars are send to Lutheran World Relief for worldwide distribution.

Gently Used Hymnals

If you would like to take home a copy of “The Lutheran Hymnal” or the “Lutheran Book of Worship” which are no longer being used at Trinity, look for the box of used hymnbooks in the Sanctuary, by the stairs to the balcony, and give one a new home before the end of October.  Thanks!

School Ministry fundraisers

Whether you are a staff member, parent, or church member, Trinity Lutheran School’s PTL has plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in our shared ministry events. PTL events like our first-ever Fall Pumpkin Patch and the HUGE annual Touch-A-Truck event connect our school, church, and surrounding community. These events not only raise funds to support our school (Infants to 8th Grade), but they draw big crowds from the surrounding community to our church! We need your help to make them happen!

Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!

Support our school ministry by purchasing your pumpkins at Trinity’s pumpkin patch!  Thank you.

Touch-A-Truck – Preplanning is now underway for the January 23 event

Chairpersons are beginning to coordinate planning for this annual event on our campus. Our success hinges on the active participation of all of our school families as this is the PTL’s major fund raising effort of the year.  Are you able to help?  Please contact PTL.TLCS@gmail.com. Volunteer opportunities available during Touch-A-Truck; PRICE hours for parents and students in Grades 6-8 will work to earn credit toward the cost of upcoming field trips to Driftwood, and Washington DC.

Operation Barefoot

Everyone needs a pair of shoes and lots of people want lots of shoes.  Some people want and need one pair of shoes.  Students of Trinity Lutheran School are collecting gently used walking shoes and NEW socks for every size and gender the entire month of October.  We can all help.   The cooperative effort of Trinity church and school members last year resulted in over 300 pairs of shoes. TLS teacher, Becky Lehenbauer travels to LaPaz Hondouras every November on a mission trip sponsored by Operation Barefoot.  Shoes should be left in the hallway of the two story building along the wall under the stairs.

Women’s Evening Out–All About Costumes

Thursday evening, November 5 is five days past traditional costume days, but not for the women of Trinity!  Beginning at 6:30 p.m. that evening, the Supper & a Speaker event presents a pot-luck dinner with Mel Barger speaking about her career with stage costumes.  Bring a main course or vegetable dish to share that has a secret or hidden ingredient — i.e. Mock Apple PIe is made with Ritz Crackers and  has no apples.  Dessert, coffee, and iced tea will be provided. One more thing, YOU don’t have to wear a costume.  Talk to Deaconess Liz with any questions or need for childcare: eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X 127.

Did you attend an LCMS National Youth Gathering in the past?

We’d like to share your experience of that Youth Gathering with other in a short video to encourage support from our members and encourage our Trinity youth to attend.  If you’re interested, please contact Mike or Laura at TrinityHSYouth@gmail.com.

Trinity Shares Christmas — The Tree is Up

This will be our eighth year of sharing Christmas.  We will partner once again with Angel Tree Ministries to help incarcerated parents give Christmas presents to their children and food to the children’s caregivers.  The children of the families we will serve this year range in age from one to 16 years; the release dates for the parents range from 2016 to 2052. The goal of this project is to help the families build and maintain a relationship as we share the Christmas message and gifts with the children and their caretakers.

Each angel ornament will contain a gift, food, or donation request.  Please take one or more ornaments and return the requested item with the ornament by November 29. Please do not wrap the present and do not use the adhesive side of the ornament to attach it to the present.

We have several very short-term volunteer opportunities to help make this program a success.  If you would like to help, or if you have any questions about Trinity Shares Christmas, please contact Glenda Frazier at whitemice@bellsouth.net.
