ALL THE NEWS

Town Hall Meetings and Voters Meeting
At the Congregational Voters Assembly scheduled for June 19th, part of the actions taken will be to review and approve the 2016-2017 Trinity budget. In preparation for, and to provide the opportunity for voters to dig deeper into the budgeting process and the basis for the budget within each of our Christian Operating Centers (Ministry, Administration, K-8 and CDC Education), your Leadership Council will host a series of "Town Hall Meetings" immediately following each worship service in a loggia classroom just west of the Sanctuary on the 21st and 22nd of May.  The budget is not yet finalized but we want you to understand the vision and the obstacles in achieving a balanced budget for Trinity.

Only One More Month
Close to 70 students will be graduating from Trinity school this year.  Our youngest graduates will leave one building and enter another as they move up into the "big kids" school.   Trinity congregation members are dedicated to Christian education and congratulate these youngest students by presenting a Beginner's Bible as a graduation gift.  Your donation of only $15.00 will send one child into the world or into Trinity's next level of education with the precious Word of God.  A display board is located in the Narthex.  Your may donate cash or a check payable to: Trinity Lutheran Church & School with Child's Bible in the memo line.

Support our HS Youth attending NYG
Trinity's High School Youth will provide the Sunday Fellowship hour treats through the month of May as a fundraising effort to raise the necessary funds needed to attend the National Youth Gathering this summer.  Please stop by for a morning snack and support our Youth!

Pennies for a Purpose

This is a maternity home where help with life changing decisions, classes in finance and  life skills, and encouragement to continue education or job skills necessary for success is provided in Christian love and forgiveness.  Whether a resident chooses to parent or to lovingly place her child for adoption, grace and mercy found in Christ Jesus are evident. Trinity Church encourages supports  this service organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod through donations and volunteer time.  Pick up an empty bottle in the narthex display and return full on or before Father's Day or June 19, 2016. 2016 Leadership NOMINATIONS
The 2016 Nominations Committee, consisting of John Strandquest, Bob Gordon, David Tesch, Karen Arnett, and Mike Kunze have brought forth a slate of nominees for Leadership Council and the Elders Ministry Team.

On Leadership Council, two at large positions are to be filled to replace outgoing members Carolyn Burnette who served a two year term and Rocky Smothers who served a one year term in the at-large position following a 2-term commitment as the Congregational President.  Carolyn previously served Trinity by participating on the Evangelism board while Rocky has served in various capacities including serving on the Fellowship and Youth Boards.  Both have shown great commitment and love for Trinity and are to be commended for their continued service.  Both serve Trinity in many other capacities in addition to their elected positions.

Nominations for the two vacant Member at Large Positions will serve a 2-year term beginning in July 2016 through the end of June 2018.  The nomination committee brings forth Gregg Yawman and Tim Norris to fill these positions.  Both Gregg and Tim have prayerfully considered the responsibilities and have committed to serve if it be the will of the congregation to select them.  Leadership Council meets at least once per month and acts on behalf of the congregation with the authority to conduct and perform all acts and affairs of the church.

Typically, the Elders Ministry Team fluctuates in size depending upon the needs of the congregation and the desire of individuals to serve.  Following service to the Elder's Ministry for two terms, Cal Wacker will be leaving the Elders Team as is Tim Norris who served two and a half terms.  We thank each of them for their faithful spiritual leadership at Trinity.

The nominations committee and Interim Pastor Martin have asked eight men to prayerfully consider participating in the Elders Ministry Team.  There are three Elders currently serving that have committed to serve an additional term including Ulysses Floyd, eligible for a third term, Steve Kerestes, eligible for a second term, and Bob Trapp who is also eligible for a second term. Additionally, there are five men who have prayerfully considered serving Trinity including Rocky Smothers, Lo Phillips, Jim Curtis, Rusty Stephens, and Ken Boggs.

Elders are elected to two year terms and outside of this annual election, any member in good standing can nominate another member of the church as a candidate by a written note to the Pastor or President, allowing the size of this ministry team to fluctuate as needed to support various church functions.  The primary responsibility of the Elders is Christian nurture to all members, to facilitate worship schedules and content, to assist with the Holy Sacraments during worship and to insure ushers, acolytes and all facets of worship are covered.  The Elders minister to, support and care for the senior pastor and staff of the office of Public Ministry, maintain the congregational role, maintain Christian discipline within the church, and maintain open communication with the Leadership Council.  The Elders Ministry Team is responsible for all aspects of spiritual leadership at Trinity.

These nominations are provided to you to prayerfully consider their participation in the Mission and Ministries of Trinity Lutheran Church and School.  Moreover, members of this congregation have full right to nominate additional members for Leadership Council or the Elders Ministry Team.  Please provide in writing any additional nominations to the Nominations Committee (John Strandquest [email protected] or 407-496-6034).  Please insure that all nominees are aware of the nomination and are willing to prayerfully consider service to Trinity in the capacity of the position.

Fun with DROIDS- Vacation Bible School aBOT Jesus!
We are being good stewards of our resources and keeping our budget in line by re-writing a 2009 Concordia Publishing House VBS program instead of purchasing something new.  It brings the fun of robots, outerspace, and God's creation together for a week of star travel.  BUT, it is not a one or two or even three man show!  Commitment NOW by section leaders is essential for success in July when we hope 100 children will spend 3-½ hours every day actively experiencing God's love for them. WITHOUT LEADER COMMITMENT, WE CANNOT OFFER THIS SUMMER MINISTRY OUTREACH. Contact Deaconess Liz by May 15 ( [email protected] or 407-488-1919 X 127) with your choice from the following positions:
  • Supply coordinator -- Help collect needed supplies from congregation; shop on-line, or at a local grocery or craft store.  You will begin immediately and continue through July 29.  Your time will be needed more the end of June and July and less in May and the first part of June.
  • Craft station leader -  Guide children in simple crafts that reinforce the point of the day. No need to think creatively until the  of June. All ideas and supplies are provided.
  • Snack station leader - Easy to serve.  You can be a shopper or not, but all you need to know how to do is make a grocery list!  All ideas and supplies are provided. You begin serving the first part of July and will need to be available July 25-29 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Story Teller - Creative, drama, nice clear reading voice: all those talents or just a few. Prepare the first part of July and be at VBS every day 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Games station leader - Outdoorsy, fun, loud commanding voice, laughter and easy going.  All ideas and supplies are provided. You don't have to worry about anything until the second week in July.  Must be available all week July 25-29 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Food and Funds on the Fifth
May has a fifth Sunday, so Trinity members know that it is time to share bounty and thank God for blessings with gifts of dollars for the Discretionary Fund and canned and non-perishable food for our community food bank.  Look for the Grocery Cart in the Narthex the weekend of May 28-29, 2016.

Lutheran Services Florida - Shoppers Needed
We are searching for people that would like to spend time volunteering to shop. Every week we welcome refugee families from all over the world and set them up in an apartment.  We have many donated items, but there are many more items that must be purchased each time we place a family.  We have a list of everything that needs to be purchased and a credit card that is used to pay for the items.  So, we need people who are available to receive day to day requests, and respond quickly (sometimes same day) to those requests, drive to the store (Walmart), pick up the items on the list, and take them to the apartment. We would let you know a few days in advance when the family is arriving and what day we will be setting up the apartment.  You could sign up to do this once a week, once a month, or as needed.  For more information about this Ministry of Welcome please contact Steve Cecchetti at Lutheran Services Florida, 407-878-8397 or [email protected]
