A Series on Stewardship - 3 of 4 - by Senior Elder, Tom Finger
This week's article concerns making a pledge to cover your planned donations to Trinity.  Unlike the idea of stewardship or the practice of tithing, you won't find the concept of pledging funds to the church anywhere in the Bible.  Instead, it is a means by which parishioners can enter into a formal agreement with their Lord to share a portion of the wealth He has given them to manage on a weekly, monthly or annual basis.

The main source of funds that Trinity's Church Ministry uses to spread the word of Jesus in downtown Orlando is the tithes and offerings of the parishioners who fill the pews every weekend. Despite what people might think, Trinity does not receive any monies from the District or Synod. So, without your generous contributions Trinity could not continue to exist.

This spring Trinity will conduct its annual Stewardship Drive. You will hear from Trinity leadership and members of the congregation about the importance of giving so Trinity can continue to accomplish great things in Downtown Orlando. You will also be asked to fill out a pledge card agreeing to donate a specific amount of money over the upcoming church fiscal year. It is important to know that this is not a legally binding document. It is also important to know that the amount of your pledge is confidential. While the finance office will need to use the pledge data to prepare Trinity's annual budget no one else will have access to your personal information.

If your financial situation changes and you need to change your pledge you can easily do so by calling the church office and letting them know you need to speak to someone in finance. Taking this step will allow Trinity to make budget adjustments, if necessary, in a timely manner.

You might ask: I put money in the plate every week, why do I need to pledge? The short answer is so the Church can prepare its annual budget with confidence, having an accurate estimate of how much money they will have to do God's work. Think of how hard it is to plan your home budget when you don't know how much money will be coming in each month. It is the same for the Church. Less than one-third of Trinity members who regularly attend weekly services have completed a pledge card for the current church fiscal year. As a result Trinity Leadership had to make an "educated guess," last June, about how much money would be available to do God's work. Is this the best way to develop an annual budget? Obviously not.

I encourage each of you to strongly consider completing a pledge card during Trinity's Stewardship Drive this spring. It costs you nothing and lets Trinity know how much money will be available to do God's work in the upcoming year.    See you in church!

Food and Funds on the Fifth Sunday
March has five Sundays! Trinity sets aside the fifth Sunday for a collection of canned  goods to donate to a local food pantry and for cash donations to replenish the Pastoral Discretionary Fund which serves to help those dealing with an immediate financial crisis. Your support to both of these ongoing needs is greatly appreciated.  So, watch for those BOGO sales at the grocery store and check your cabinets for those unexpired items you thought you might need, but never used. And we'll take that collection during weekend worship on March 30/31. Thank you.

VBS Crew Leaders Needed June 17-21
Trinity will be hosting a week long Vacation Bible School in June with the theme of "ROAR: Life is wild. God is good." A very significant role in this ministry is played by adults and older teens who serve as Crew Leaders. Each Crew Leader is assigned 5 or 6 children of various ages to escort from the morning Opening to four different activity stations, and then back again to the sanctuary for Closing.

There is no preparation required for this role; you arrive each morning at 8:45 a.m. in time to greet your crew of children in an assigned pew, grab a crew bag that contains all the information that you will need for the day, and then accompany your crew of children to each activity. Crew Leaders' responsibilities for each day end when the children are dismissed to their parents, usually completed by 12:15.

Crew Leaders are truly the hands and feet of Jesus in building relationships with these children and helping them to see the love of Christ in action. Please contact jmalenke@trinitydowntown.com for more information. Thank you!

Please let us know!
Please let your Trinity family know of any scheduled surgery or hospital stay.  In addition to scheduled procedures, please give the church office a call to let us know about extended illness, unplanned hospital stays, or even the birth of a child.  You can call the office at any time and leave a message-no need to wait until business hours (407-488-1919 x101). During business hours, that information can then be forwarded to the appropriate caregivers.  For an emergency that requires the care of a Pastor after hours or over the weekend call or text us at 407-490-7339 and leave a message. We'll get back to you ASAP. We want to be sure to know when you need us-whether to pray with you before a scheduled procedure, sit with you during a loved one's procedure, pray for you while you recover, visit you in the hospital/at home or to share praise and thanksgiving prayers for good news/results. Just let us know.  Thank you.

Urgent Prayer Requests
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to Pray@TrinityDowntown.com .  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.
