Century II Taskforce Update — Ruth Lane construction to begin

On Friday, July 18, Bob Blackwood, Trinity’s building project manager, joyfully reported that the city of Orlando had issued our construction permit for the long-awaited 28,000-square-foot building on Ruth Lane. Doster Construction brought in its construction trailer last weekend. Trinity expects to issue the official “notice to proceed” later this week, once the construction fence is in place. Some of the early steps in the construction include demo of the two garages/storage buildings near the courtyard, site preparation and drainage/stormwater improvements. In addition, Modern House Movers now has its permit to construct the foundations for the three historic houses and lower them into place. In the next two weeks, Taskforce is planning to meet with Doster and Modern House Movers to realign and finalize a revised construction timeline. The construction period is 315 days. If you are new to Trinity, the first floor of the building will house Trinity Lutheran School’s Child Development Center and accommodate 320 children from infants to 5-year-olds (pre-kindergarten). The building also has an entire second floor for future ministry use. Completion of the building will enable Trinity to remove the five portable classrooms and house all of the CDC children in one location. Praise God for this opportunity to share the Gospel with more children and families!                 --Kathy Aber, Taskforce chair

Change Accepted

The Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) are encouraging you to return your mite boxes this month.  The intentional collecting date is October 12, but that box is probably filled with pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and  the special purple $5.00 bills.  Did you know that purple is the LWML color?  How wonderful that our U.S. Mint thought about the LWML when the new design for the $5.00 bill was introduced.  Put your full box or cup into the collection box in the East Transcept of the church Narthex and exchange it for an empty one to fill for the LWML Sunday collection in October.  Talk to Martha Pfantz with any questions: 407-425-2947

LSF: Start Children Off on the Way They Should Go

Head Start Programs are designed to provide economically disadvantaged children with the tools needed to help them keep pace with children born to more affluent families. Lutheran Services Florida now operates all Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in Pinellas, Duval and Palm Beach counties, along with Early Head Start Family Child Care Homes in Hillsborough County. For the 2014-15 school year, we will serve 6,000 children ages 5 and under in these programs. We operate these centers ever mindful of Proverbs 22:6: “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” For weekly ministry updates, please visit us on Facebook.

Join the Party in Jacksonville

The weekend of September 26-28, 2014, the LWML Florida-Georgia District Convention will be held in Jacksonville.  In less than 3 hours you can travel to the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk hotel, and enjoy a weekend of relaxation in a top quality hotel will high end amenities for an incredibly low $99.00 per night room cost.  Jamie Erpenbach and Diann Grover will represent the Trinity women as Voting Delegates to this District Convention.  Susan Roby is our Alternate Delegate.  Since Jamie and Diann will be busy “working”, the rest of us come to the convention and enjoy Bible study, serving through mission projects, and staying up late laughing and eating snacks with no worries for voting.

Look for the purple EVANGEL newsletters on the LWML table in the rear east narthex (the side with the chairs, busy bags, and giant mite box) for more detailed information, or contact Deaconess Liz: eborth@trinitydowntown.org or Mary Lou Evanchyk: 407-275-8096

TLS News

From our Trinity Lutheran School CDC Director, Patty Moser:

This has been a very productive and exciting week here at Trinity.  Dr. Kevin Brockberg, our new K-8 principal, joined our team; and we received notification of permits so we can finally begin construction on the Trinity Century II project!  We are all feeling very blessed to be moving in a forward motion again.  I can not express how grateful we are that you have all been so patient and supportive.

As we embark on building/growing our Trinity ministry and Trinity community in so many different ways, I always picture the children involved in unit block play and how the architecture changes and expands as the children become more capable,  interested in applying the techniques they have learned to create a complementary framework on their foundational skills.  As different children become involved, the structure may take on a slightly new look, or someone may use a different approach to achieve the same goal.  The important thing is the growth, making sure it continues upward, and if a block falls down the children pick it up and put it back in place, or use it in a different manner.  The most critical  component of the building is the foundation; is it strong? Can it withstand change?

Luke 6:48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Trinity’s foundation for growth is in Christ’s love!  Christ is the core of our ministry and community here at Trinity.  I am so excited for this school year to be moving forward with a guiding theme of “Growing Together”, with exciting new changes, maybe some different framework but all from our foundation in Christ, which is forever strong and intact, “bringing children and families one step closer to Jesus.”
