Trinity Lutheran School Update

It is with great pleasure that Trinity Downtown announces that Dr. Kevin Brockberg of Detroit, Michigan, will begin next week (July 15) as our interim school principal. In addition, his wife, Susan, has accepted the TLS position as the 7th-8th grade teacher.

Most recently, the couple, who are both experienced educators, have been serving the Hong Kong District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod at Buenavista Concordia International School in Xi Cheng, Bao An, Shenzhen, China, since 2012. During the 2-year assignment, Kevin was the Head of School and Susan was the middle school science teacher. They have just returned to the United States.

Kevin's career spans public, private and international schools and he has experience in Early Childhood, K-12 and higher education. He holds a Ph.D in Educational Leadership from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and is certified in the United States both as a classroom teacher and as an educational administrator. His wide variety of experiences range from inner city Detroit Public Schools to the Hong Kong International School. At Buenavista Concordia International School, he aimed for collegial discourse examining instructional methodology and inclusive school cultures as research-into-practice for the leaning community at BCIS. He has also been an adjunct professor and consultant for Oakland University.

His certifications include: Michigan Administrator, K-8 Classroom self-contained, K-12 Physical Education, and Certificate of IB Studies. He graduated in 1978 from Concordia University River Forest with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a minor in mathematics. He completed a master's degree in Administration and Supervision in 1983, also from Concordia River Forest. Then, in 2006, he earned an Ed.S. degree from Oakland University.

Susan Brockberg graduated from Valparaiso University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences and a minor in education. Her first teaching assignment was at Milwaukee Lutheran High School as a science teacher. She has been a middle school math and science teacher at Hong Kong International School, a classroom teacher at Our Shepherd School in Birmingham, Michigan and a guest teacher in the Troy (Mich.) School District prior to her recent teaching position in China. She is currently working on a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an anticipated graduation next month.

We look forward to welcoming the Brockbergs into our Trinity Family and the Orlando community, and thank God for this wonderful answer to prayer.

God’s Blessings & Keep Growing!  --Trinity Downtown

Change Accepted

The Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) are encouraging you to return your mite boxes this month.  The intentional collecting date is October 12, but that box is probably filled with pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and  the special purple $5.00 bills.  Did you know that purple is the LWML color?  How wonderful that our U.S. Mint thought about the LWML when the new design for the $5.00 bill was introduced.  Put your full box or cup into the collection box in the East Transcept of the church Narthex and exchange it for an empty one to fill for the LWML Sunday collection in October.  Talk to Martha Pfantz with any questions: 407-425-2947

Volunteer Opportunities

Feed the Need

Feed the Need is a Servant Event and fundraiser.  We seek donations from family and friends to support it.  A percentage of the funds raised is used to purchase food that will be packaged by the TLS students and sent to missionaries in Haiti to distribute.   The other percentage of the funds raised then come back to Trinity as a fundraiser.  For us to successfully complete this Servant Event and fundraiser, we need a committee of about 6 people.  The committee will be trained and walked through the event by coordinators from the Champion Events Group.  The committee needed should  get started on this training in the next few weeks.  Attached are some videos from the organization so that you can learn more about the event.  I think it is a great opportunity for our students to assist others, share God’s love, and “Grow Together” in their faith.  If you are willing to help, please contact the school office at 407-488-1919.  Thank you!
