Welcome Pastor Tom Zehnder!

Please be sure to welcome our Interim Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Tom Zehnder!  He will lead all worship services this weekend.  If you would like to contact Pastor Z, his email address is tom.zehnder@trinitydowntown.com or you can call his office at 407-488-1919 x112.

Ladies Bunco Party

Every month, all the women of Trinity and friends of Trinity are invited to spend 2 hours eating, laughing, and playing a simple game that encourages making new friends.  THIS Thursday (Jan 15) we play bunco and share snacks.  If your birthday is an even date, then you bring $10-15 Gift for Harbor House (pet brush, pet shampoo, new children’s toys, women’s personal care item).  If your birthday falls on an odd date, then bring some food or drink as snacks to share for the evening.  Snacking begins at 6:30 p.m. and the games start at 7:00 p.m. in the Ministry Center - 427 N. Magnolia.  Questions?  Contact Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

Good Samaritan Dinner

On February 22, 2014, Trinity church members are invited to participate in a celebration hosted by Lutheran Services of Florida.  The Good Samaritan Dinner honors men and women from Lutheran Churches throughout Central Florida who show outstanding Christ centered service and dedication to church, community, and family.  Trinity is delighted to bestow the title of 2014 LSF Good Samaritan to Lo Phillips. Lo has an impressive reputation for school teacher and administrator in the Orlando area. Despite retirement, Lo continues to share his gift of patience, discipline, and love to disadvantaged students in the Seminole school district. Lo is an army veteran, an IDignity Board member and volunteer, our church elder, usher, greeter, reader, husband, father, and grandfather.  Whew!  Lo is a man who quietly serves as Jesus expects us all to serve.  Please plan on joining in the celebration on Sunday, February 22 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Orlando.  Dinner tickets are $30.00 each and reservations are made through Trinity Lutheran Church.  Contact Deaconess Liz - 407-488-1919 x127 for details and questions.

Clothing Donations

Trinity recommends the following three recipients for direct clothing donations:  The Shiloh Baptist Church Clothing Closet, The Christian Service Center and the Orlando Rescue Mission Thrift Store. All three ministries give clothing to those in need.  The Trinity offices and Compassion Corner do not directly receive clothing donations.  Please make arrangements for drop off at one of of these locations:

  • The Shiloh Baptist Clothing Closet @ 604 West Jackson Avenue on the 3rd Friday of each month.
  • Christian Service Center, 808 W. Central Blvd. Orlando, FL 32805 (407) 425-2523
  • The Orlando Rescue Mission Thrift Store is located on Central Avenue across from the Christian Service Center.

Thank you!

New Year for New Service

The Altar Guild is a behind the scenes service opportunity for members of Trinity church.  Traditionally, women “set the table, and prepare the meal,” but husband and wife teams are also welcome.  This is also the perfect opportunity for mother/pre-teen or teen daughter to volunteer together.  Once very 7th month, you are asked to spend every weekend preparing and cleaning up the Lord’s Supper.  Questions or thoughts?  Contact Deaconess Liz or any Elder with your questions and offer to serve.  eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X 127.

Life and Death Presentation

Plan on spending an evening in the Fellowship Hall with other women of our church/school family for a presentation on bio-ethics. The presentation on issues of life  will be led by Hospital Chaplain Melinda Plumley.  She will lead us on an interesting discussion of fertility treatments, abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide. Trinity’s Women’s Supper & Speaker events are quarterly gatherings for pot-luck dinner and varied topics of interest.  On Thursday, January 22, 2015, we begin eating a vegetarian potluck at 6:30 p.m.  Please bring dollar bills to stuff baby shoes for True Life Choice and Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries.  Questions?  Contact Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

Make Prayer a Year Long Gift

Why did Jesus’ disciples ask for help with prayer? Because they saw a difference between their ritual prayers and the relationship-building conversation Jesus had with God our Father.  There are over 300 children coming and going every weekday on your campus.  There are dozens of construction workers working on your campus.  There are almost 100 teachers and ministry staff working on your campus.  Each day set aside one minute to stop and pray for safety, health, and peace for all these children of God and your brothers and sisters in Christ.  You don’t have to be a mom to log on to www.momsinprayer.org. and receive a short prayer every day for your child and school.

Lutheran Services Florida

Last year Lutheran Services Florida cared for 895 children in our four youth shelters.  These include children that are victims of abuse, neglect, and human trafficking.  Our ministry gives these kids hot meals, a caring environment, and a safe place to sleep for as long as it is needed.  These children usually arrive with only the clothes on their backs and it is only through the support of our Lutheran brothers and sisters that we are able to provide them with clothing, personal items, and school supplies.  LSF would like to thank all those who sent us the funding needed to help these children.  Please keep this ministry in your prayers during this coming year as the beds in our shelters continue to be full.  If you would like to help please contact Steve Cecchetti at scecchetti@lsfnet.org or (407) 878-8397.

If you have friends or relatives who are graduates, please share their information with us as well.

We have set up a secure email address to receive the data. Please send name (also maiden name, if applicable), address, graduation year, phone #, and email address to alumni@trinitydowntown.org or fill out a card at the display in the church narthex.
