A message from Pastor Zehnder (trz)

The conversations with Trinity started last November. It went something like “Would there be any chance that you would be available to assist at Trinity as an Interim Pastor?” Conversation ensued and here I (we) are. I am truly humbled to be given the trust that comes with your “Call.” Jackie and I thank you for your warm welcome and continued patience as we walk this road together.

In three months or so I will have opportunity with you to review this “Call”  to see that it is still helpful for you and possible for me and Jackie to continue. So put this on your prayer list.

This is a remarkable congregation. Your history is fascinating and the ministry you are involved in is superlative. It takes such energy to keep the wheels moving at Trinity, and you are supplying such energy. Keep the level high! We need total commitment as we go forward in the proclamation of the Gospel which is THE ministry of Trinity.

Our school programs (infants through 8th grade) are the finest examples of such organizations!  Excellence is everywhere! Thanks to all who make these things happen.

I look forward to worship this weekend and in our future together as the Lord Jesus gives! trz

And, p.s.,  Kids should be in the services of worship with their parents!

Here’s a portion of an email I received from one of our mothers who passed on to me an interesting comment made by one of the children of the family (age 6!) after last Sunday:

“As I was bringing (my son) to school, he, out of the blue, piped up and said that from now on it was ok for him to sleep in church! I had no idea he was actually listening to your sermon and you’ve started a bad precedent in a kid who’s only 6. I absolutely love it …”

Eutychus speaks: “I love it too!”  As we do.. . .

Stewardship Drive

Mark your calendars! Consecration Sunday is May 31, 2015. There will be one 10am combined service on that Sunday as we celebrate the outcome of our Stewardship Process reception/dinner will follow. This Stewardship journey will begin formally on Saturday/Sunday, May 9/10, 2015. This fine and tested process is truly a Gospel-based approach to the grace of giving! You will enjoy it and our congregation will flourish by it!  Bob Meyer will be leading the process with help from a “cast of thousands.”

We are a congregation with a tremendous financial challenge! Our budgeted church offering amounts have not been matched by reality of actual offerings, and we are running, running, running behind. We can change this very quickly. From time to time I will be addressing this pressing need. In the meantime, let’s do what we can to change this somewhat daunting situation!  Thanks brothers and sisters!    - trz

Traffic Flow at the Magnolia Building

Construction is moving forward at a quick pace!  Next week, work will begin on the soccer field and Amelia house.  We will lose our field use and driveway access to Amelia Ave on Tuesday, February 3rd.  At that time, the driveway of the Magnolia building onto Magnolia Ave.  will become a TWO WAY drive. No parking will be permitted along the Magnolia driveway.  PLEASE be cautious when entering and exiting.  Drive slowly and please pay careful attention.  Thank you!

Women’s Party Time

This month the regularly scheduled bunco party group will play a different game with chocolate as our reward.  Yum!  Super simple; no skill; no thought; -- perfect for a social gathering around food and laughter.  THURSDAY, February 12 at 6:30 p.m., come to the Magnolia Ministry Center building with a food dish or snack or drink to share with 12-16 women.  Bring a valentine to exchange as well!  (I’m bringing a box of candy heart to share with each person).  More questions?  Ask Deaconess Liz!  407-488-1919 x 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org

Foundations Class

Our next class will begin after Easter and will meet on Saturday evenings before worship. Stayed tuned for details.

Can’t Make it to Church?

If you or a family member cannot make it to church,  please contact Trinity’s Visitation Pastor, Rev. Dennis Glander.  He would be very happy to visit with you and bring Holy Communion to you at home.  You may contact him at 407-249-0361 or cell 407-409-1179 or via email at  dglander1326@att.net.

Is Your Spirit Under Construction?

Obviously our campus is under construction.  Let your spiritual construction be just as obvious! Noah didn’t have to figure out how to construct the ark because God said, “This is how you are to make it…” You can follow Noah’s wise example, act in faith, and work diligently to build prayer walls of salvation around our school and homes.  Use a Bible verse like: “Jesus, take these little children into your arms and bless them.”  Simple prayer.  Repeat it daily like a mantra.  If you would like to receive a short prayer every day for your child and school, simply visit  www.momsinprayer.org.

Simple, Short-Term Service Opp

Can you carry a beverage container in one hand and pass a cup with the other?  Can you push a lever and fill a cup?  Then the Free Coffee - Java Team is for you!  Every Wednesday through May, Trinity members hand out free coffee to every vehicle that stops at the light on Magnolia/Rosalind and Livingston.  Every person who walks up to the cart  sitting at the empty lot on Livingston receives a FREE cup of coffee.  This is a wonderful way to share God’s free gift of love for all - no strings attached.   Come at 7:30 a.m. and help as long as you can until 8:45 a.m.  Short time, short term, easy service!  Contact JJ Alexander: 407-538-1011 or jjalexa@gmail.com

Viking Challenge

The students of Trinity Downtown challenge you to: support Trinity Lutheran School with a donation, exercise aerobically, and watch and pray as we “Grow Together” and complete our building campaign with a new soccer field, a renovated school library, and additional technology tools.

You may be familiar with the IceBucket Challenge, the fund-raising phenom of 2014 for the cause of ALS research.  At Trinity our Viking Challenge is more than a quick cold splash.  We are challenging you to dive-in, dash, pedal, wheelchair, walk, skateboard, jog. . . you can choose what to do with your family and friends.  We want you to enjoy the challenge of fun and fitness and to remember Trinity with a gift for our encouragement and challenge to get active!

Next week we will open the Viking Challenge webpage with full details: how to pass along the Viking Challenge through social media, read scripts, list our incredible thank you gifts, and more.  For now, just prepare to walk around Lake Eola and challenge your friends in support of Trinity!

P.S.  If you cannot ‘save the date’ of February 7 from 9:00am to Noon, you can still participate in the fundraiser any day and time, from February 7 through March 31, when the Viking Challenge closes.  February 7 is only the beginning and the kickoff for this grand, six-week project.  Whether you send your own Viking Challenge to friends while you are skiing the slopes in Colorado, or rollerblading down the boardwalk in Daytona, you can send a message any time!  Challenge your friends to get active and actively support Trinity in the Viking Challenge.
