Don’t miss Touch-A-Truck, TOMORROW, January 23, 9am-1pmtat logo

TAT is one of Trinity’s biggest annual community events and fundraisers, organized by the PTL of Trinity Lutheran School with a network of volunteers made up of church members, school families, and staff.  We have dozens of trucks and vendors coming out for a fun day on the Trinity campus, where we’ll also be giving school tours and will have the sanctuary open for visiting and organ music playing.  Please come out to support our PTL’s fundraising efforts for the school and have lots of fun with the family!

From Pastor Martin

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK  This Sunday we welcome Rev. Gerry Kieschnick as our guest preacher.  As former LCMS president, he’s in a great position to offer a message of encouragement as we kick off Trinity Lutheran School Week.  We join with over 2000 Lutheran schools nationwide celebrating the blessings of Christian education for our children. Our students will be helping all weekend as Scripture readers…and singing at the 11 am service!

We are so blessed by the ministry of Trinity Lutheran School, from the newest infants all the way through our 8th graders, over 370 children and their families, and teachers and support staff.  What a marvelous ministry!  Did you know that over 80% of our school families are not members of Trinity, yet we have the privilege of bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ into their hearts and into their homes.  Trinity currently lists about 1300 baptized members. It’s safe to say that our school increases our “circle of influence’ to nearly 2000 souls.  THANK-YOU, LORD!

NEW CENTURY CENTER DEDICATION  Although the delays continue, and our formal dedication date is being pushed off into March, we are so blessed to have full use of the first floor of the New Century Center for our Child Development Center.  In the meantime, we’re taking advantage of more time to beautify our campus.  And as we await the official start of our new mortgage, we’re working on the CDC staffing adjustments needed to support this growing ministry. We’ll be publishing a newsletter in the next few weeks bringing you up to date on these topics and much more, including the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation process.

By the way…watch for school registration information for 2016-17.  We want you all to be able to help us get word out to potential Trinity School families!

Don’t miss our YOUTH GROUP SUB SANDWICH SIGN UP at church this weekend.  We’re helping our youth go to National Youth Gathering!

Please keep our CONFIRMATION MINISTRY in your prayers. Every other Sunday afternoon 15-20 confirmands meet from 2-4 pm.  With Confirmation Day for our 2nd year students coming in less than 4 months, we’ll be announcing key dates very soon.

Thanks for a joy-filled Baptism Celebration Weekend!  Not only did we have the chance to remember our own baptisms in each of the worship services, but it gave us an opportunity to invite our school families with unbaptized children to start considering the possibility.  We’re planning a similar Baptism Celebration in our school later in the year.

Campus Revitalization Projects Up & Running!  Eric Havens, our General Manager reports that the first “campus revitalization” project is already completed.  The air conditioning unit in the sanctuary balcony was replaced this week.  When the next round of warm weather arrives, there will be some “happy campers” in our balcony. Thanks for your generosity!

CAMPUS REVITALIZATION GIFT OPPORTUNITIES Last fall our Leadership Council prioritized a long list of campus revitalization projects.  Just before the end of the year, a list of most urgent sanctuary renovations and campus painting projects was presented to some of our members who might be in a position to help.  As of this writing, about $9100 had been pledged.  Other projects for the sanctuary include railings in front and rear, finishing the sacristy repairs and the balcony wall/ceiling repairs. Meanwhile we’re getting estimates on the repairing the windows, so that when they’re securely waterproofed, the dollars previously donated for carpeting can be put to use.  We may not get everything done by Easter, but let’s keep  giving our place of worship the care it deserves!  THANK-YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!  Eric Havens also reports that our painting projects (approx. $40,000) can be done in smaller segments.  He would be happy to give you more information about what’s on the list, and what it would take to get it taken care of.  Contact Eric at eric.havens@trinitydowntown.com or407-488-1919 x108

MORE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS  We’re sorry that we aren’t permitted to open the new driveway around the gym quite yet. But the good news is that gym roof repairs have been completed, and the new gym floor that was installed this past summer is now protected! The new soccer field and playground area is close to completion.  And, the new Wheelchair Ramp and Gate leading to west side door of the sanctuary are fully functional!  THANK-YOU, LORD!

ACTS 2:45

This passage explains why Trinity sponsors food on the fifth.  Whenever there is a fifth Sunday in any month, Trinity members have an opportunity to share with those who are hungry.  In 2015, we added a special monetary collection to our food donations in order to help our church family members with financial assistance.  The Discretionary Fund helps Trinity’s members when unforeseen circumstances and events deplete stretched salary and deplete savings.  On January 30 and 31, a special offering will be collected along with the non-perishable items we plan to donate to the Christian Service Center for the Love Pantry program.

Teachers and other school staff in the 65 public schools in Orange and Seminole counties draw from the Love Pantry to send much-needed groceries home with their students.  Our own family members benefit from Christian love in action when the need for financial assistance means a humbling and embarrassing request.  Let your gifts be a generous and loving Christ-centered action for your brothers and sisters.

Let’s Show People that Trinity Really Cares — how will you contribute to this effort?

Eight years ago, Trinity members followed Jesus’ direction and cared for strangers in need. IDignity started with Christian men and women showing their active faith.  Rather than say, “someone should do something for those people,” members of Orlando’s downtown churches developed a plan to help the least of Jesus brothers.  The Federal REAL ID Act requires every citizen prove their identity with a birth certificate, social security card, and proof of residence.  IDignity makes a complicated process easy every month with a free identification event.  Trinity members are expected to participate on February 18.  Do not depend on the regular participation of others as a representation of what you should do.  If you give up one day a year, or share a financial gift, or arrange for or sponsor lunch for the volunteers, you are proving Trinity really cares. Thursday, February 18 beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. the Orlando Union Rescue Mission graciously gives up their home for IDignity’s event.  Parking is free; continental breakfast is free; lunch is free; your time is priceless.  Contact Deaconess Liz: eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X127 or in person to learn how to reserve your spot.

Beautiful Christmas Decor

Thanks again to everyone who supported Trinity’s poinsettia and Christmas decoration sponsorships this Christmas, and a special thanks to Mary Poole for her decorating talents and to the TLS student council for the poinsettias along the loggia!  The Sanctuary was beautiful.

Tabathon 2016

The 7th and 8th grade class of Trinity Lutheran School has been planning and performing various service projects throughout the school year as part of their Religion curriculum.   On Tuesday,  February 2, the class will go to the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) at the Arnold Palmer Medical Center to serve lunch for the families who are currently staying at the home.  They will serve 35-40 people who are staying at the  RMH so they are able to remain as close as possible to their children who are patients at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. The class has planned a meal and will donate all of the food, prepare food at the RMH, serve and clean up to show their love and support for those in crisis.  To give additional ongoing support to the RMH, the class has decided to ‘resurrect’ the Pop Tab collection program at Trinity.  The class is working hard to get the word out that collecting Pop Tabs is an easy way to provide funds for the Ronald McDonald House, just down the street from Trinity.  Collection jars have been placed throughout the campus for your convenience so get ready to Pop and Drop!  Pop a can open, then drop a tab in the nearest collection jar!
