We Honor Lo Phillips as a Good Samaritan

The Good Samaritan Award Dinner is held each year to recognize one individual from each Orlando area congregation that best exemplifies the man Jesus describes in Luke 10: 25-37. Trinity is delighted to bestow the title of 2014 LSF Good Samaritan to Lo Phillips. Everyone is invited to attend the banquet. Dinner tickets are $30.00 per person. Make reservations and purchase tickets through Trinity Lutheran Church office no later than Sunday, February 15th. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Orlando (1515 South Semoran Blvd.) The evening is fun, the food is delicious, and the fellowship is warm.

Lo has an impressive reputation as a school teacher and administrator in the Orlando area. Despite retirement, Lo continues to share his gift of patience, discipline, and love to disadvantaged students in the Seminole school district. Lo is an Army veteran, an IDignity Board member and volunteer, our church elder, usher, greeter, reader, husband, father, and grandfather. Whew!  Lo is a man who quietly serves as Jesus expects us all to serve. Contact Deaconess Liz at 407-488-1919 x127 for details and questions.

Super and a Speaker

Plan on spending THIS Thursday, 1/22/15, in the Fellowship Hall with other women of our church/school family for a presentation on issues of life concerning pre-birth through terminal illness. The presentation will be led by Hospital Chaplain Melinda Plumley. We begin by eating a vegetarian potluck at 6:30 p.m. That means you need to bring a vegetarian dish to share! Also, please bring dollar bills to stuff baby shoes. Money collected will benefit True Life Choice and Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries support of life. Questions? Contact Deaconess Liz at 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org<mailto:eborth@trinitydowntown.org>.

Under Construction

Our campus is under construction. Dirt, concrete, hammering, cranes, and all kinds of activity indicate growth! Think about your construction. Are you being re-constructed daily by the Spirit? Are you actively participating in God's word and prayer?  Noah's story presents a picture of the work we have as intercessors for our children in prayer. Noah didn't have to figure out how to construct the ark because God said, "This is how you are to make it. . ." Your scripture prayers are like planks placed layer upon layer to build faith and Godliness into the lives of our children. You can follow Noah's wise example, act in faith, and work diligently to build prayer walls of salvation around our school and homes. Receive a short prayer every day for your child and school simply be visiting the following: www.momsinprayer.org

Lutheran Services Florida

Last year, Lutheran Services Florida cared for 895 children in our four youth shelters. These include children that are victims of abuse, neglect, and human trafficking. Our ministry gives these kids hot meals, a caring environment, and a safe place to sleep for as long as it is needed. These children usually arrive with only the clothes on their backs. and it is only through the support of our Lutheran brothers and sisters that we are able to provide them with clothing, personal items, and school supplies. LSF would like to thank all those who sent us the funding needed to help these children. Please keep this ministry in your prayers during this coming year as the beds in our shelters continue to be full. If you would like to help, please contact Steve Cecchetti at scecchetti@lsfnet.org or by calling 407-878-8397.

Nemours Update

Things are getting exciting!  Trinity has decided to tackle three aspects of Nemours Healthy Habits program enhancement.  .

  1.  Provide healthier foods and reducing sugar.
  2.  Promote and educate families and staff on breastfeeding issues.
  3.  Family style dining

As you all know we have already upgraded our snack choices and now we will make a few other changes.  Our kitchen will no longer offer apple juice or chocolate milk as a beverage choice or dessert.  The extra monies will be spent on providing fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis and reducing added sugar in the menu.

Our first breastfeeding training will be Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. Alejandra DeMaio, she is a licensed Doula and Lactation Specialist.  She will address public policy issues regarding breastfeeding, how breast milk should be handled and stored, and end with questions and answers.  We are including our staff in this training as well so that your families overall experience in our infant program is strengthened.

Lastly, when we transition to the new building the children will be served and eat family style at lunch and snack times. This means teachers will sit at the table and engage in conversation with children as they serve themselves with age appropriate sized equipment.

Viking Challenge!

Are you and your family and friends ready to take the Viking Challenge?

Our Viking Challenge fundraiser begins Saturday, February 7th at Lake Eola, beginning at 9:00 am.  Save the date now, and you will soon learn why this major event is truly a challenge for your entire family. Learn how you can advance this challenge all month long. . .

Calling all TLS Alumni!

We have set up a secure email address to receive the data. Please send name (also maiden name, if applicable), address, graduation year, phone #, and email address to alumni@trinitydowntown.org<mailto:alumni@trinitydowntown.org> or fill out a card at the display in the church narthex.
