Pastor’s Notes

Good News for the Trinity Family!

Dedication Day is coming on March 13 (see article), and we’re getting ready with a Work Day on Saturday, March 5 (see article).

This Saturday, February 27 we’re doing another Meet the Neighbors Walk from 1 – 2:30 to make sure everyone in the Lake Eola Heights Historic District has a printed & personal invitation to the Dedication.  Join me at the CDC Lobby (Ruth avenue entrance) at 1 pm. NO TRAINING NECESSARY!

Sunday, March 6 is the B.L.E.S.S. Workshop, right after 11am service, from 12:15 to 2:30.  We’ll start with a light lunch, and then dig in with Pastor Doug Kallesen to ways that we can become a BLESSING to our friends & neighbors in everyday relationships. CHILDCARE AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. Please sign-up at church or email  Debbie Holley (debbieholley59@gmail.com), so we can plan for food and materials.

CONCORDIA-NEW YORK Choir Concert Thursday, March 10, 7pm.  We still need more host homes for students.  Sign up at church this weekend!

Dr. Brockberg Issued a Call for K-8 Executive Director: Last Sunday’s Voters Assembly issued a Call to Dr Kevin Brockberg to serve as K-8 Exec. Dir. (Principal) of Trinity Lutheran School.  If Dr. Brockberg is moved to accept the call, this will not change his duties, but will remove his interim status.  The action followed months of consideration by the School Board and the Leadership Council of the needs of our K-8 School Ministry, and potential candidates for the position.  Please keep both Kevin and Susan Brockberg in your prayers as they seek God’s will about this call to serve at Trinity.

We’re on the move!  Both our CDC and K-8 School Ministries are well on their way to completing our part of the National Lutheran School ACCREDITATION report.  We’ll have an LC-MS Visitation Team with us in mid-April. The process will enable us to focus very clearly on our next steps forward! This is not just a school endeavor.  Our Leadership Council members are engaged in learning what steps we can take to enhance Church-School co-operation, and strengthen all that the Lord has called us to do at Trinity.

We received a very encouraging report about the FAITHFULLY FORWARD campaign at last week’s Voters Assembly.  We’re on the way to meeting our goals…which is extremely important as we prepare to take on our new mortgage payments in the very near future. (We still don’t know exactly when they’ll start.)

The report about regular congregational contributions was not quite as positive.  We’re about 7% behind anticipated offerings year-to-date. That’s about a $50,000 shortfall.  We have to turn that around…quickly…because cash flow will be very tight when the mortgage payments start.  We’ll keep you informed of how we’re doing.

Thanks to continued “Campus Revitalization Project” special contributions, we are in a position to upgrade lighting around the sanctuary and loggia.  We also have received estimates for exterior “sealing” of the sanctuary.  Looks like that will have to wait a while longer, but lighting and railings are within reach. Watch for more info.

One more…BRING A FRIEND WEEKEND…March 19/20.  Start thinking about whom to invite to worship with you on Palm Sunday weekend, as we let our friends, neighbors, & co-workers know that we’d love to have them worship with us at Trinity!

Prayer Warriors Needed

From time to time an urgent prayer request comes in during the week that can’t wait to be shared on Sunday when we share prayer requests in worship on the yellow prayer cards and also distribute our weekly printed prayer list.  Trinity member Marcy Shively has volunteered to serve as a point person for receiving weekday urgent prayer requests and is now seeking volunteers who are committed prayer warriors with access to email during the week and will be able to commit time to prayer for these urgent requests.  If you’re interested in serving as a weekday prayer warrior, please contact her at PRAY@TrinityDowntown.com to volunteer.

Urgent Prayer Requests

If you have an urgent prayer request that can’t wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to Pray@TrinityDowntown.com.  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can’t wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity’s regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.

Book Fair

Trinity’s Spring Book Fair is coming March 2-4. Additional preschool and middle school titles have been added to his fair, so there is something for everyone, ages infants to eighth grade! PTL needs your help to make these activities possible, so visit Volunteer Spot at http://vols.pt/t2MTjC to sign up for a shift at the book fair.

Trinity’s Annual Read-In

Join us for our annual Read-In event at 6pm on Friday, March 4th in Trinity’s Gymnasium. Trinity’s Read-In was voted 2015 Best Downtown Storytime by Playground Magazine!  All of our Trinity families are invited for an evening of fun lead by Trinity Lutheran School CDC teachers Miss Stacey, Miss Colby and Mr. TJ. Come rock and roll with Pete the Cat! We’ll be rockin’ our school shoes while making crafts, enjoying snacks and participating in storytime with some of our favorite teachers! Please RSVP in advance at the front desk or call 407-488-1919.

Campus Work Day – March 5

Come one, come all!  In preparation for the New Century Center Dedication, let’s tidy up our campus.  Some of the things that are on the list:  tidying up the flower beds, moving boxes into storage, minor furniture moving.  Many hands make light work so please plan on helping out Saturday, March 5 from 8am-noon.  Lunch will be provided. School parents can receive P.R.I.C.E. hours for volunteering, and this is also a great opportunity for any students who need volunteer hours for NHS or other organizations.  Look for a sign-up sheet handed out before worship or in the narthex before and after services.

Concordia Choir – Host Homes needed to make this happen!

On Thursday, March 10, Trinity has the awesome opportunity to host the Touring Choir from Concordia College, New York. This concert will be filled with awesome music! But, in order to make this work, we need help from you!   The choir members are in need of host families for after their concert. They travel in groups of 2, with there being a need for 2 groups of 3 (1 guys, 1 ladies). If you are willing to host, please contact me at justin.tayon@trinitydowntown.com. Let me know how many you would be willing to house for the night (minimum of 2 is required since they travel in pairs).  Thank you for your willingness to serve.  -Justin Tayon

Look for the footed bucket

If you were not able to give your services at the February IDignity event last week, you still have an opportunity to make a difference and help people navigate a complicated process with your financial gift.  Your gift of any amount will help cover the average cost of $125 per person. This weekend, special door and plate collections will be taken.  Your check should be made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church and have “IDignity” in the memo line.

Battling Childhood Hunger

Our last Food on the Fifth collection was passed on to the Christian Service Center to fill the Love Pantries in local schools.  There are many children who eat one meal a day, and that one is a school lunch.  Teachers keep stocked pantries in classrooms and discreetly send home backpacks of food.  We added to the 28,000 items of food collected in January.  Wow!  We make quite an impact when we work together serving others.
