Trinity Lutheran School Families (CDC & K-8)

 Retake Day

Portrait packages were sent home on Wednesday of this week.  If you did not order a package you should have received a “Second Chance” notice with your child’s photo on it if your child was photographed that day.  If you like the photo, please follow the directions on the form to order prints.   Since we received our packages later than originally expected, the retake day has been moved to Monday, December 16th.  The photographer will only be here for a short time in the morning so please make sure your child is at school on time.  All K-8 students are required to wear their school uniform on picture day.  Even if you do not plan on ordering all children will be photographed to appear in the yearbook.

We Three Spies, The Musical December 6, 2013, 6:00pm on the Lake Eola Stage

This Friday, December 6, 2013, Trinity Lutheran School will present We Three Spies, The Musical, as part of Trinity Downtown’s The Gift which begins at 6:00pm at the Lake Eola stage.  Behind the witty one liners and catchy songs found in this captivating story about three young spies is the message that Christ was sent to earth to save us.  It will surely have you on the edge of your seat, laughing and crying along with the characters!  Students in first through fifth grade and select middle school students will be performing in the musical.  In order to facilitate costuming plans for the program, Friday, December 6th has officially been declared a “Free Jeans Day” at school for all students. This was done to ensure that all students will be wearing blue jeans for the program. Students performing in this production are expected to arrive at Trinity at 5:00pm when they will receive a special snack and their shirt for the performance.  We encourage you to stay after the musical with your students to watch the remaining performances by the downtown Orlando mass choir and to enjoy the Christmas village and food trucks. Email Mr. Brink at JABrink@TrinityDowntown.orgwith any questions.

Cookie Dough Pick-Up - Tuesday, December 10th

Good News!  The Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough will be arriving at school next week!  We are encouraging parents to pick-up orders (especially large orders) to reduce the number of students carrying temperature sensitive merchandise.  If you are unable to pick-up, please try to send a friend or relative in your place.  All orders must be picked up on Tuesday, December 10th from 3:00pm to 5:30pm in the back of Fellowship Hall.   Thank you for your support of our fundraiser!!!!  Any questions please contact Josh Brink at jabrink@trinitydowntown.org.

Please Support TLS Middle School Get to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia!

Thank you all for your wonderful support helping our middle school students get to Washington DC last year! We could not have done it without your help and financial support. This year the middle school students will be attending an outdoor education program at Driftwood Education Center in Georgia. The students’ families are paying for their student’s trip fees this year, but we need your help to raise enough money for a charter bus.   You can help by purchasing homemade baked goods from our booth at The Gift on Friday, December 6, or by participatincat wash, a No Waiting in Line Car Wash!  Mark your calendar for Sunday, December 15 from 8: 00 am to 12:30p.m. (same day as the voters meeting).   Watch for upcoming announcements--those who are interested in participating will be able to park in a specific area and have their car washed while they are in worship!  No lines, No wait.  Park your car, have it washed while you’re in church and drop off your donation when you pick up your car.  Thank you!

Please be sure to read the registration forms carefully. If you have any questions, please email Keri Packman at kpackman@trinitydowntown.com.

Bible Study for TLS Parents

Looking for a place to get into His Word?  Trinity is starting up a new home bible study group focused for the school families.  We have not determined a day of the week, a time, frequency, or even where at this point in time.  The first step is to gather names of people that are interested in getting involved and studying His Word.  Interested?  Contact Eric Havens at 1-321-368-6336 or email at eric-havens@comcast.net and provide me your name(s).  Prayerfully consider this opportunity and let Eric know you are interested.

Women’s Tuesday Tea and Coffee

The Bible study for all women that regularly meets on Tuesday is moving off-site.  This week (Tuesday Dec. 10) we meet at Downtown Credo coffee shop in College Park.  We start the study at 9:00 a.m. and should finish just a little after 10:00 a.m.  Great pastries, breakfast goodies, and delicious coffee take second place to the warm friendship and engaging discussion we share.  Come and see God’s Word actively working among sisters-in-Christ.  Contact eborth@trinitydowntown.org for details.

Moms In Prayer

Please consider signing up for a daily short email blast from Moms in Prayer International. You will receive Scripture prayers to pray for your own children, for our school children, and for our staff.  Go to www.momsinprayer.org.  Click on Prayer Connection Box.  At the bottom of the list click on “Sign Up for Daily Scripture Prayers”.  Register and you’re done!  If we can’t physically meet on campus to pray together, we can pray in our own time and place together for our children and our school!

Nutcracker Tickets

The Central Florida Ballet Company is performing the Nutcracker at the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday, December 21, 2013 @ 7:30pm and Sunday, December 22, 2013 @ 2:00pm.  Call 407.849.9948 to purchase tickets.  If you mention you are with Trinity, you should be able to receive a 50% discount.

CDC Families

 Some more ABC’s of Advent

from Deaconess Liz

D - There are difficulties to face even in the season to be jolly.  It is obvious that what we need above all else is to be delivered from all these things.  And we are!  The Deliverer, Our Savior, JESUS is the promise of joy and hope.

E- Examples are everywhere in the Christmas story.  Examples of people trusting God and trusting His plan for their part in His unfolding plan.  These were simple people called and empowered by God, not exaggerated saints, but people very much like you parents, and grandparents.

F - How often we take family for granted.  The approaching holidays focus our attention on family and friends.  Thinking about family may serve to remind us we are part of the family of God.  Jesus is our brother.  Which relative do you consider your favorite?  With God there are no favorites, because each person is unique and special and because of Jesus, is worthy of His love.

G - Are you shopping?  Are you wrapping?  Gifts are given to show love and respect and share happiness and joy.  The gift of God is one that will not fade and break or wear out.  Jesus is the central focus of our celebration, for He is the gift of eternal life which comes only by His goodness.

Scholastic Book Club

Please remember to place your Reading Club orders by November 22!  You can shop and submit your order online or return the printed order form with payment directly to Keri Packman. No matter how you order, every purchase you make earns FREE Books and educational supplies for our classroom.  The arrival of the book box is always a highlight-thanks for making it happen!

Accreditation

The TLS CDC is about to embark on re-accreditation with the National Lutheran School Accreditation.  We are required to have a group of parents sit on the committee that completes the self-study.  It will require monthly meetings over the next year and half.  If you are interested in helping the CDC to develop a stronger program and would like to sit on this committee, please contact Patty Moser, CDC Director, ASAP,  407-925-8694. I already have one parent that has volunteered,  two more would be a gift!!

REMINDERS

  • Please don’t forget to bring in your Campbell Soup Labels, Box Top Labels and Tyson    Labels.  Every month there is a friendly competition to see which CDC and School Class brings in the most box tops.  The winning classes are awarded $20 for an ice cream party.  This is a great way to help our CDC and School!

  • Touch-A-Truck, November 23rd from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm (Horn-Free 9:30 – 10:30 am)!  There will be tons of trucks and construction equipment for all ages to explore!  Entry into the event is $5 per person and is free for children under 2 years old!  There will also be an Open House during the event.  This is a great opportunity to show other families how truly special Trinity is for children Infants through 8th Grade!  Please invite friends and family to this great event!
