The Gift, Tonight!

Tonight is Trinity's annual Christmas outreach to our neighbors, The Gift, now called Downtown for the Holidays Tree Lighting Celebration.  Celebration Activities include:

5pm Preshow acts, music, vendors, food trucks

6pm Lighting of the Christmas tree

6:15pm Trinity Lutheran School Christmas musical

7pm Movie: How the Grinch Stole Christmas

...and much more!

At 9pm Trinity needs volunteers with TRUCKS to transport the Christmas trees from the Lake Eola stage back to Trinity after the event has ended. Those trees will then be gifted to families who aren't able to purchase a tree for Christmas.  Please let us know if you can assist TLC@trinitydowntown.com.

Trinity Shares Christmas THANK YOU!!

To everyone who donated gifts, wrapping paper, food, and money: Thumbs up and Thanks!  HOWEVER.....Seven gifts are MIA.  We want to insure that every child gets two gifts, so if you (or perhaps your child) took an ornament and cannot bring the item to church by this Sunday, December 7, please contact Glenda Frazier at whitemice@bellsouth.net.   The team will then purchase the item so sorting and bagging can be completed. Thank you!

A LONG Night to Celebrate

Since the end of daylight savings time change, the nights are longer.  For anyone who is experiencing loss of any kind or illness in any way, this extended time of darkness can be unbearable.  This will be the 7th year Trinity offers a “Service of the Longest Night”, a special Christmas worship service for those who find it hard to be in the company of so many others full of festivity.  Saturday night, December 20 at 6:00 p.m. we celebrate the longest night with a special word from Rev. Dr. Richard Armstrong of Lutheran Counseling Services in Winter Park.  Spread the word; invite someone you know; come and find the Light and hope.  Contact: Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

Four Week Tuesday Evening  Women’s Advent Bible Study

Nov. 25, Dec 2, 9, and 16  Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The story of Ebenezer Scrooge combined with the Advent themes of hope, redemption, transformation, the work of the Spirit, and the Christian life.  Order your copy on-line from Creative Communications for the Parish. Bible study is by Travis J. Scholl. Contact Lisa Moore for more information at lmoore@trinitydowntown.com

Important - ALL Sunday School Parents!!!!!

Please bring your child to the church basement for the month of December.  The CLASSROOMS ARE LOCKED until we are finished in the basement and the teacher takes their class to the 2 story classroom building.  Your children are UNSUPERVISED, with an open campus, if they come late and go to the classrooms.  Even late arrivers should come to the basement!  Please help us keep our children SAFE and monitored!

Children’s Christmas Eve Program at 3:00 on Dec 24

Children are practicing for this during the Sunday School hour on Dec 7, Dec 14 and Dec 21. Children 4 years old through 5th grade are invited to participate.  There will be Saturday rehearsals on Dec 13, 9 - 11 a.m. and Dec 20, 2 - 4 p.m.  Dress rehearsal will be Monday, Dec 22, 9 - 11 a.m. Please email lmoore@trinitydowntown.org if your child wants to participate!  We need older children to be readers, and we need the full manger scene costumed!

Preparing for Christmas

Last Christmas we said farewell to our faithful Sanctuary Christmas Trees after twelve seasons, and asked for donations to purchase new trees for this Christmas.  Many of you responded, and we raised $2,570.  Thank you!  That’s only $650 short of what we paid for two beautiful new trees that were delivered in September, so we’d like to invite you to contribute to finish paying for the trees plus another $350 to refresh our other Christmas garland/decorations.  If you’d like to help, just mark an offering envelope “Christmas Decorations” and put it in the plate or mail it to the church office.  Thanks, Pastor Moore.

Poinsettias

Yes, it’s that time of year again!  The flowers that make Trinity especially beautiful during the Christmas celebrations are provided by members of our Trinity family who wish to remember loved ones, or simply express special thanks to God. The names of contributors and people remembered will be published in the January Worship Notes following the holidays. (Suggested donations for poinsettias are $12.00 each) Order forms are available in the narthex.

Set Your Alarm for Noon (or any hour)

Time to pray for our school and the 300 children who fill the buildings 50 hours a week.  Why did  Jesus’ disciples ask for help with prayer? Because they saw a difference between their ritual prayers and the relationship-building conversation Jesus had with God our Father.  Let’s turn our focus from “me” to “We” and pray for our school.  Each day set aside one minute to stop and prayer for safety, health, and peace for our children and teachers.  www.momsinprayer.org. Receive a short prayer every day for your child and school!!

Team Ministry

The Altar Guild is one more service opportunity for members of Trinity.  Traditionally, women “set the table, and prepare the meal,” husband and wife teams are most welcome.  Also, this is the perfect opportunity for mother/pre-teen or teen daughter to volunteer together for the church.  Once every 7th month you are asked to spend every weekend preparing and cleaning up the Lord’s Supper.  Questions or thoughts?  Contact Deaconess Liz or any Elder with your questions and offer to serve.  eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 x 127.

Life and Death Presentation

Look forward to another Women’s Supper & Speaker evening Thursday, January 22, 2015.  This one will be a vegetarian potluck and a presentation on bio-ethics by Chaplain Melinda Plumley from Orlando Regional Medical Center.  What is the Christian stand on life from beginning to end? Questions?  Contact Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

Everywhere to Bethlehem

December 12th,13th and 14th St. Luke’s Oviedo will be presenting their annual outdoor walk-thru of the Christmas Story, 6-9pm with live music & refreshments, free parking & admission.  For more information visit stlukes-oviedo.org

Calling all TLS Alumni!

We are assembling a database of our school graduates. We want to keep our graduates informed about TLS today, help graduates keep in touch with each other, and improve our ability to share with the community great news about Trinity Lutheran School and its alumni.  Please help us by giving us your name and contact information. If you have friends or relatives who are graduates, please share their information with us as well.

We have set up a secure email address to receive the data. Please send name (also maiden name, if applicable), address, graduation year, phone #, and email address to alumni@trinitydowntown.org or fill out a card at the display in the church narthex.
