Children’s Dress Rehearsal TIME CHANGED

Offices Closed

Please note:  Trinity church and school offices are closed from December 24 through January 1st.  While the offices are closed, if you have an emergency that requires the care of a pastor, you can call the main number 407-488-1919 and dial extension 123 to reach someone from the Ministry Team.

Special Christmas Service Tomorrow

December 21 marks the winter solstice.  This is a time when the sun's daily maximum elevation in the sky is the lowest.  In simple terms, there is more night and darkness than daylight.  For anyone who is experiencing grief/loss of any kind, or illness in any way, this extended time of darkness can be unbearable.  Tomorrow (Saturday) Trinity offers a special Christmas worship service for those who find it hard to be in the company of so many others full of festivity. At 6:00 p.m., exactly 24 hours before the solstice, we celebrate the longest night with a special word from Rev. Dr. Richard Armstrong of Lutheran Counseling Services in Winter Park.  Spread the word; invite someone you know; come and find the Light and hope.  Contact: Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

December 22 Service of Prayer for Healing--Cancelled

Because Monday, December 22, is so close to Christmas, the Elders will not be hosting our usual Service of Prayer for Healing on the fourth Monday of December.  Do plan on attending the Service of the Longest Night on SATURDAY, December 20 instead.  If you have any special prayer needs, please contact your elder or one of the pastors, or send an email to our Senior Elder at mwkunze@gmail.com.

Good Samaritan Dinner

On February 22, 2014, Trinity church members are invited to participate in a celebration hosted by Lutheran Services of Florida.  The Good Samaritan Dinner honors men and women from Lutheran Churches throughout Central Florida who show outstanding Christ centered service and dedication to church, community, and family.  Trinity is delighted to bestow the title of 2014 LSF Good Samaritan to Lo Phillips. Lo has an impressionable reputation for school teacher and administrator in the Orlando area. Despite retirement, Lo continues to share his gift of patience, discipline, and love to disadvantaged students in Seminole school district. An army veteran, an IDignity Board member and volunteer, our church elder, usher, greeter, reader, husband, father, grandfather.  Whew!  Lo is a man who quietly serves as Jesus expects us all to serve.  Please plan on joining in the celebration on Sunday, February 22 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Orlando.  Dinner tickets are $30.00 each and reservations are made through Trinity Lutheran Church.  Contact Deaconess Liz - 407-488-1919 x127 for details and questions.

It was a Neck and Snout Race

Trinity school children and families collected coins and bills for either a Turkey or a Ham dinner for the men enrolled in the Christian Service Center’s Fresh Start program.  Each week their monetary donations put the pig barely a snout ahead.  However, the final leg of the race belonged to the Turkey!  On Christmas Eve, Trinity Lutheran School proudly presents a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings to the men who have committed themselves to a Fresh Start. But the Turkey felt sorry for the Pig and invited him along!  There will also be ham on the Christmas Eve dinner table. Fresh Start is a residential program of the Christian Service Center designed to restore dignity and a second chance to be a productive member of society. Trinity is honored to have a small part in helping these men back onto their feet. Thanks to Jenny Beyer, all the PTL Room Parents, and Thrivent Financial for support and encouragement.

Clothing Donations

Trinity recommends the following three recipients for direct clothing donations:  The Shiloh Baptist Church Clothing Closet, The Christian Service Center and the Orlando Rescue Mission Thrift Store. All three ministries give clothing to those in need.  The Trinity offices and Compassion Corner do not directly receive clothing donations.  Please make arrangements for drop off at one of of these locations:

  • The Shiloh Baptist Clothing Closet @ 604 West Jackson Avenue on the 3rd Friday of each month.
  • Christian Service Center, 808 W. Central Blvd. Orlando, FL 32805 (407) 425-2523
  • The Orlando Rescue Mission Thrift Store is located on Central Avenue across from the Christian Service Center.

Thank you!

Thrivent Financial Community Service

If you are a Thrivent member, I strongly encourage you to consider forming a Thrivent Action Team.  It’s a benefit of your membership, and this generous program funded by Thrivent Financial members helped Trinity Lutheran School complete the Fresh Start Christmas Eve dinner project. Because of this partnership, Trinity school families were able to confidently live out our mission and meet the needs in our local community. THANK YOU THRIVENT!  -Deaconess Liz

New Christmas Trees and Garland

Thank you to all those who have responded to the need to raise funds for the new Christmas Trees for the Sanctuary.  To date, we have raised $3084 of the $3570 cost for the two new trees and garland this year. $486 left to go!  Thank you all so much! If you’d like to help, just mark an offering envelope “Christmas Decorations” and put it in the plate or mail it to the church office.

Concordia Seminary and Thriving Family Magazines

We have a small number of copies of the 175th Anniversary Special Edition of the Concordia Seminary magazine.  We also have some Thriving Families magazines.  You can find them in the Narthex while supplies last. Enjoy.

Life and Death Presentation

You may be thinking Christmas presents and other holiday preparations were “life or death”.  Seriously, plan on spending an evening in the Fellowship Hall with other women of our church/school family for a presentation on bio-ethics.  Trinity’s Women’s Supper & Speaker events are quarterly gatherings for pot-luck dinner and varied topics of interest.  On Thursday, January 22, 2015, we begin eating a vegetarian potluck at 6:30 p.m.  The presentation on bio-ethics by a Hospital Chaplain will address the Christian position on life from beginning to end.  Expect interesting discussion on fertility treatments, abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide. Questions?  Contact Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

Special Member News

Long time Trinity member Dorothy Millies will be 100 years old on January 11, 2015.   You are invited to a cake and coffee reception at the Lutheran Haven - Fellowship Hall from 2-5pm that day. RSVP to Dorothy’s daughter, Chris Jennison at 407-330-3275.

Make Prayer a Year Long Gift

Why did  Jesus’ disciples ask for help with prayer? Because they saw a difference between their ritual prayers and the relationship-building conversation Jesus had with God our Father.  There are over 300 children coming and going every week day on your campus.  There are dozens of construction workers working on your campus.  There are almost 100 teachers and ministry staff working on your campus.  Each day set aside one minute to stop and prayer for safety, health, and peace for all these children of God and your brothers and sisters in Christ.  You don’t have to be a mom to log on to www.momsinprayer.org. and receive a short prayer every day for your child and school.

If you have friends or relatives who are graduates, please share their information with us as well.

We have set up a secure email address to receive the data. Please send name (also maiden name, if applicable), address, graduation year, phone #, and email address to alumni@trinitydowntown.org or fill out a card at the display in the church narthex.
