Save the date:  Thank you celebration for Pastor Moore and Lisa Moore!

On Sunday, December 28th Pastor Moore and Lisa Moore will lead their last worship service at Trinity Downtown as our Senior Pastor and Music Minister.  We will have a Combined Sunday worship service at 10am  that morning, followed by a meal, music and fellowship in the gym, as we celebrate the Moores’ ministry and thank them both for their faithful service!  Watch the mail for RSVP instructions or contact

Celebrate Light in Darkness

For anyone who is experiencing loss of any kind or illness in any way, the long night hours of darkness can be unbearable.  This will be the 7th year Trinity offers a “Service of the Longest Night”, a special Christmas worship service for those who find it hard to be in the company of so many others full of festivity.  SATURDAY night, December 20 at 6:00 p.m. we celebrate the longest night with a special word from Rev. Dr. Richard Armstrong of Lutheran Counseling Services in Winter Park.  Spread the word; invite someone you know; come and find the Light and hope.  Contact: Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.  Special Notice:  Those who received an invitation via U.S. postal mail have the wrong day listed for this worship service.  It is Saturday December 20, not Wednesday.

New Christmas Trees and Garland

Thank you to all those who have responded to the need to raise funds for the new Christmas Trees for the Sanctuary.  To date, we have raised $3084 of the $3570 cost for the two new trees and garland this year. $486 left to go!  Thank you all so much! If you’d like to help, just mark an offering envelope “Christmas Decorations” and put it in the plate or mail it to the church office.

Poinsettias

Yes, it’s that time of year again!  The flowers that make Trinity especially beautiful during the Christmas celebrations are provided by members of our Trinity family who wish to remember loved ones, or simply express special thanks to God. The names of contributors and people remembered will be published in the January Worship Notes following the holidays. (Suggested donations for poinsettias are $12.00 each) Order forms are available in the narthex.

Trinity CDC is in need of a washing machine and refrigerator.

Our current washing machine is leaking and one of our refrigerators is not keeping food items cold.  If you will be replacing either of these items in your home during the holidays and would like to make a donation to our program, we would love to take them off your hands.  If you think you can help, please contact Patty Moser on her cell phone at 407-925-8694 or pmoser@trinitydowntown.org.  Thank you

Important - ALL Sunday School Parents!!!!!

Please bring your child to the church basement for the month of December.  The CLASSROOMS ARE LOCKED until we are finished in the basement and the teacher takes their class to the 2 story classroom building.  Your children are UNSUPERVISED, with an open campus, if they come late and go to the classrooms.  Even late arrivers should come to the basement!  Please help us keep our children SAFE and monitored!

MEMORY DOLLARS should come back Dec 21 for prizes!

There will be no Sunday School Dec 28!

Concordia Seminary and Thriving Family Magazines

We have a small number of copies of the 175th Anniversary Special Edition of the Concordia Seminary magazine.  We also have some Thriving Families magazines.  You can find them in the Narthex while supplies last. Enjoy.

Children’s Christmas Eve Program at 3:00 on Dec 24

Children are practicing for this during the Sunday School hour on Dec 14 and Dec 21. Children 4 years old through 5th grade are invited to participate.  There will be Saturday rehearsals on Dec 13, 9 - 11 a.m. and Dec 20, 2 - 4 p.m.  Dress rehearsal will be Monday, Dec 22, 9 - 11 a.m. Please email lmoore@trinitydowntown.org if your child wants to participate!  We need older children to be readers, and we need the full manger scene costumed!

December 22 Service of Prayer for Healing

Because Monday, December 22, is so close to Christmas, the Elders will not be hosting our usual Service of Prayer for Healing on the fourth Monday of December.  Do plan on attending the Service of the Longest Night on SATURDAY, December 20 instead.  If you have any special prayer needs, please contact your elder or one of the pastors, or send an email to our Senior Elder at mwkunze@gmail.com.

Everywhere to Bethlehem

December 12th,13th and 14th St. Luke’s Oviedo will be presenting their annual outdoor walk-thru of the Christmas Story, 6-9pm with live music & refreshments, free parking & admission.  For more information visit stlukes-oviedo.org

Life and Death Presentation

Look forward to another Women’s Supper & Speaker evening Thursday, January 22, 2015.  This one will be a vegetarian potluck and a presentation on bio-ethics by Chaplain Melinda Plumley from Orlando Regional Medical Center.  What is the Christian stand on life from beginning to end? Questions?  Contact Deaconess Liz: 407-488-1919 X 127 or eborth@trinitydowntown.org.

A note from Lutheran Services of Florida

Sometimes people get discouraged when they learn about an individual that buys 100 bicycles for underprivileged children for Christmas or someone else that takes 25 children to the toy store and lets them pick out whatever they want.  They think to themselves “I could never do anything like that, so why bother doing anything at all.  What difference could my meager contribution make?”  Let me tell you, to that one small child that has one gift to open on Christmas morning, and the only reason that gift is there is because you took the time to donate it, your “meager contribution” makes all the difference in the world to that child.  Lutheran Services Florida brings God’s healing, hope, and help to more than 50,000 children in Florida every year….and we do it one child at a time.  www.lsfnet.org

Special Member News

Long time Trinity member Dorothy Millies will be 100 years old on January 11, 2015.   You are invited to a cake and coffee reception at the Lutheran Haven - Fellowship Hall from 2-5pm that day. RSVP to Dorothy’s daughter, Chris Jennison at 407-330-3275.

Make Prayer a Year Long Gift

Why did  Jesus’ disciples ask for help with prayer? Because they saw a difference between their ritual prayers and the relationship-building conversation Jesus had with God our Father.  There are over 300 children coming and going every week day on your campus.  There are dozens of construction workers working on your campus.  There are almost 100 teachers and ministry staff working on your campus.  Each day set aside one minute to stop and prayer for safety, health, and peace for all these children of God and your brothers and sisters in Christ.  You don’t have to be a mom to log on to www.momsinprayer.org. and receive a short prayer every day for your child and school.

Calling all TLS Alumni!

We are assembling a database of our school graduates. We want to keep our graduates informed about TLS today, help graduates keep in touch with each other, and improve our ability to share with the community great news about Trinity Lutheran School and its alumni.  Please help us by giving us your name and contact information. If you have friends or relatives who are graduates, please share their information with us as well.

We have set up a secure email address to receive the data. Please send name (also maiden name, if applicable), address, graduation year, phone #, and email address to alumni@trinitydowntown.org or fill out a card at the display in the church narthex.

Go, Vikings!

Holiday Mini Camps

We have several days of holiday Mini Camps coming up during the holidays to provide care for your child when school is out.   Christmas Camp will begin on Friday, December 19th when school dismisses at noon and be offered again on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23rd.  New Year's Camp will be held on Friday, January 2nd.  All camp days run from 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and lunch will be available for purchase for $5.00.  Families who pay for Extended Care by the month have camp days included in their fees, otherwise the drop in charge is $45 (plus the $35 yearly registration fee if not already paid).
