John Muzika’s funeral service will be held at Trinity Downtown this Saturday, August 30 at 11am with a reception luncheon immediately following in the gym.  Please keep the family and friends of John in your prayers.

Special Voters Meeting

Trinity will have a special voters meeting Sunday, August 31, 12:20 pm, to discuss funding the replacement of the gym roof.  The agenda will include the possibility of taking money from the Kunze Endowment to pay the bill for the roofing.

Food on the Fifth

THIS WEEKEND!  The Publix grocery cart is waiting in the church narthex for canned and boxed food.  Trinity will help fill the Concord Street Church pantry shelves.  Many homeless and poor families count on the generosity of church members to take the edge off hunger pains. Cans with pop-tops and ready to eat snacks are particularly welcome.  questions? contact: eborth@trinitydowntown.org

Sunday School at Trinity

Begins Sept 7, 9:30 am in the church basement.

For ages 4 and up!

Do you need a Night Out?

On the second Thursday of every month, you have an opportunity to escape the real world.  The women’s bunco party is the place where you have nothing to lose or gain other than friendships and stress relief.  September 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with potluck food and continuing with the games until 8:30 p.m., is the date to find your way to the second floor of the Magnolia Building (where the infants play all day!).  Bunco is a game requiring no skill or risk.  It is so easy, some moms bring their pre-teen daughters (and sons) to join in.  Come on out and play!  For more information: eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X 127.

Parent/Church Member Volunteers Needed for Grandparents Day

On September 10th our TLCS campus will welcome our students’ grandparents who will be able to visit with their grandchildren, meet the teachers, sit in on classroom activities, shop at the book fair and attend chapel service together.   Last year more than 120 grandparents visited our campus for Grandparents Day.  We need parent and church member volunteers available to greet with a smile, give directions, and answer questions as needed.  If you’re available to help, please contact Chanda Busby at your earliest convenience at chandabusby@gmail.com. (PRICE hours opportunity).  Thank you.

Construction Update

This week the foundations are going in for the new building and fpr the first of the historic houses. In a few weeks, the foundations will be done and all three houses should be set down in their new locations. Temporarily, the playground area was closed this week to allow for the excavation and installation of the underground stormwater drainage pipe; the playground should be replaced and back in use in several weeks. At this point, Doster Construction is right on schedule. We have started the permitting process for six modular classrooms that will temporarily house the children, who are now in portable classrooms on the west side of the gym, during the second half of the construction period beginning in January. These will be located on the back of the soccer field near the Amelia entrance. Don’t forget you can watch the construction work daily from your office or easy chair athttp://www.livestream.com/trinityconstruction. Please continue praying for good weather, safety on the job site and patience for coping with changes during construction.  -Submittied by Kathy Aber, School Board and Task Force chair

This year all the churches in both Florida & Georgia will attend and Bill Yonker will be our speaker.  The Living Stones will be returning as our Gathering band. The registration fee remains at $140.

-  Who can register?

The Gathering specifically targets middle school youth. To register, a youth must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year. Non-LCMS youth are certainly welcome to attend also!

For safety we require that each church provide 1 adult leader for every 6 attendees under the age of 18.

The event cost covers all program and administrative costs, two nights lodging, four meals, and a t-shirt for each participant. Keep your eye out for more information – coming soon!!

Please contact Lori Zavitz at 407-718-6184 or at lorizavitz@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

Respect, Responsibility, and Hard Work

Ask any student at Trinity about our “three big rules,” and they will tell you about how respect, responsibility, and hard work are the building blocks of our school.  These core traits help us to think of others, care for ourselves, and put effort into all we do.  The three big rules build individual character, perpetuates a community feeling, and puts our faith into action.

Fall Book Fair - September 9-11th

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.  We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to open a world of possible.

Our Scholastic a Book Fair theme, “Sir Readalot’s Castle: Enter the Kingdom of Books!”, surrounds students in the celebration of reading with hundreds of fun, engaging, affordable books for them to discover. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

Book Fair Dates:     September 9 – 11, 2014

Shopping Hours:     8:30 – 5:00 (until 6:00 on 9/11)

Special Events:      Grandparent’s Day – September 10 -Before you visit the Book Fair be sure to download the FREE Book Fairs App to help you find the right fit books for your child. For more information, visit: scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs. And if you’re all booked up during Book Fair week be sure to visit the Book Fair online at scholastic.com/fair. Our Online Fair is available for an extended time from August 22 to September 11, 2014.
