Women are Not Perfect

Our Father Creator God in wisdom beyond all understanding created a perfectly balanced humanity.  We realize the sinfulness in this world displaces that balance.  Women feel a greater weight of burdens and cares than our Lord originally planned.  Strength for the Journey is a program based on sharing Christian love and healing for women who struggle with excessive caregiving burdens and trials.   Mark your calendar for a special weekend retreat October 17-19, 2014 at the Canterbury Retreat Center in Oviedo.  Cost is $199.00.  For specific information contact: Julia Malenke: jmalenke@trinitydowntown.org

Mom, will you pray for me?” For moms, dads, grandparents, church members...

Foundations Class--Want to become a member of Trinity Downtown?  Interested in learning more about the Lutheran Church.  Want to connect with others who are new to Trinity?

If you’ve never been through a basic introduction to Christian teaching, you’ll learn a lot, and even if you were confirmed as a teenager in a Lutheran Church, you’ll be surprised at how it all comes together for you when you think about these things with an adult brain and adult experiences!  Have a few questions about the church or the Bible that have always confused you, or could never get them answered?  We will tackle them - and give real, solid, Biblical answers!  We’ll meet every Wednesday evening from 6-9pm starting September 3 and ending October 22 (skipping October 1).  We meet in the upstairs conference room in the Magnolia Building, located at 427 North Magnolia (four buildings up Magnolia from the Travelodge, facing the courthouse). If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.  Please contact Chanda to sign up or for more information TLC@TrintyDowntown.com or 407-488-1919 x101

Connecting Members to TLS Ministry--Help with Homework

Trinity Lutheran School’s Extended Care Program invites you to share your wealth of life experience and subject area knowledge with the students in our Elementary and Middle School through volunteer opportunities during the afterschool hours of 3:30-5:30 Monday through Thursday beginning in September.  We are looking for adults who enjoy working with children and are able to donate one hour a week to tutor children in Math, Reading, and Language Arts.  No preparation would be necessary, just commit to the hour and come partner with a child who could use a little extra help with their homework.  If you are interested, please contact Julia Malenke at jmalenke@trinitydowntown.com or 407-488-1919  x 122.

Food on the Fifth

August has an extra Sunday. Whenever the extra Sunday weekend occurs, Trinity intentionally remembers those in our community who struggle to put nutritious food on the table.  For all the weekend services - Saturday, Aug 30 and Sunday Aug 31 - please bring non-perishable food to church and fill the Publix grocery cart.  This easy mission outreach has been part of Trinity culture for six years.  This month, Concord Street Church will welcome our donations.  Cans with pop-tops and ready-to-eat food items are most welcome.  This church offers food to relieve the immediate hunger needs of men and women who live on the street, as well as low income families unable to serve nutritious meals.Contact Deaconess Liz with questions or suggestions regarding this social ministry: eborth@trinitydowntown.org - 407-488-1919 X 127.

You CAN be in two places at once!

Several Trinity women are heading to Jacksonville on September 26 for the LWML District convention.  You will be personally represented when you donate items for the Women’s Resource Center of Jacksonville.  This type of “ingathering” is a regular mission of all LWML groups. You won’t find an easier way to participate in Jacksonville with the hundreds of women from Georgia and Florida and still be home with your family.  All sizes of maternity clothing, baby diapers, new baby and infant socks, Good Start brand formula, other baby food, infant toiletries such as shampoo, baby wipes, lotion, powder, etc. are most welcome.   Pick up a collection sheet from the narthex table.  A collection box is in the corner of the narthex near the stairs  All items should be returned BEFORE September 24. Questions? eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X 127.

LSF Programs Help Children to Be Ready for School

Getting the children back in school makes for a busy time at Lutheran Services Florida. LSF is the largest provider of Head Start and Early Head Start services in Florida, serving more than 6,000 low-income families with children ages 0 to 5. These children are fed a nutritious breakfast, lunch and healthy snack as they prepare to enter kindergarten on an equal footing with children born in to more fortunate economic circumstances. Many churches, groups and individuals from around the state are supporting this work by gathering needed items, volunteering their time at the centers, and lifting these families up in prayer. To learn more about LSF Head Start, please go towww.lsfnet.org or call Steve Cecchetti at 407-878-8397.

Middle School Youth Gathering

November 7-9, 2014 - Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center

This year all the churches in both Florida & Georgia will attend and Bill Yonker will be our speaker.  The Living Stones will be returning as our Gathering band. The registration fee remains at $140.

-  Who can register?

The Gathering specifically targets middle school youth. To register, a youth must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year. Non-LCMS youth are certainly welcome to attend also!

-  What is a Junior Guide?

A junior guide is a high school youth who shows leadership skills and would be a tremendous asset to any youth director taking his/her youth group. Two junior guides are allowed for each church. They will be given specific responsibilities and opportunities for leadership training.

-  Adult/Participant Ratio

For safety we require that each church provide 1 adult leader for every 6 attendees under the age of 18.

The event cost covers all program and administrative costs, two nights lodging, four meals, and a t-shirt for each participant. Keep your eye out for more information – coming soon!!

Please contact Lori Zavitz at 407-718-6184 or at lorizavitz@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

Respect, Responsibility, and Hard Work

Ask any student at Trinity about our “three big rules,” and they will tell you about how respect, responsibility, and hard work are the building blocks of our school.  These core traits help us to think of others, care for ourselves, and put effort into all we do.  The three big rules build individual character, perpetuates a community feeling, and puts our faith into action.  Ask any TLS student what he or she has learned so far about  respect, responsibility, and hard work at Trinity this week!

Trinity Girls Scout Troop Leader Needed

The Trinity Lutheran School GIRL SCOUT troop #296 is seeking a new leader and co-leader to move forward with the 2014-2015 school year. This year our troop consisted of 11 girls ranging from K-2nd grade (Daisies and Brownies), providing a positive, loving and growing experience. The current leader will be taking a step down but is willing to mentor and be available for any questions as well as hand over lesson plans, materials and supplies. The troop meets over other week and to get started the leader and co-leader must attend a 3-hour meeting at the Citrus Council location.  This meeting will also prepare you and give you all you need to get started. We hope that someone will consider taking on this new and exciting experience as the girls have truly made a difference this year. Please contact Shelby Finkelstein at 561-654-4339 or finkelstein77@yahoo.com if you are interested.
