Highlights from Pastor Martin

  • “A BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE” …Revitalizing Our Campus for Ministry! By now you should have received the first “Bridge to the Future” mailing.  It lists the kind of projects we’re doing to fix up our campus. (more details below) Since we’re combining this with our annual Stewardship emphasis for Operating Expenses, we’re placing commitment cards in the pews this weekend so you can start praying about how you want to do your giving for the coming year.  Watch for the next mailing to get the perspectives of current CDC parents as well as one of our long-time members.
  • Baptism Celebration Chapels  We’re praying that this Wednesday, April 27th will be a memorable and joyous day for the NINE students who are planning to be baptized, and for all the students who will have an opportunity to be reminded about the blessings of their baptisms/dedication/future baptism.  You’re invited to join us for Chapel:  8:30 Pre-K – 8, or 9:30 for 3 yr olds.  (Read more about baptism at Trinity)
  • Congratulations to Trinity Lutheran School! The National Lutheran Schools Accreditation process brought enthusiastic responses from the NLSA visitation teams for both our Child Development Center and our K-8 program.  Trinity’s whole School Ministry is fully accredited!  PLEASE CONGRATULATE ALL OUR CDC & K-8 STAFF!  And… thank our School Board, Leadership Council and Ministry Staff for their unswerving support of these marvelous school ministries!  We are blessed!
  • Lutheran Church Extension Fund Board Visits Trinity!  Apparently we’re a popular destination.  Our church body’s LCEF Board of Directors asked if they could visit the New Century Center over the weekend, and see the amazing new facility that houses our Child Development Center, and has an unfinished second floor just waiting to be built out for ministry.  16 classrooms…307 children…about 80 full or part-time staff. Patty Moser and crew are carrying out one of the most amazing ministries in the LCMS.
  • The LCEF has an equally amazing ministry.  People from all over the United State who want to bless the Lord’s work and get a good interest rate deposit their money in LCEF.  LCEF makes loans to churches for projects like our New Century Center.  Investors get the joy of knowing that their dollars are building churches & schools. Then, LCEF turns around and gives rebates to congregations like Trinity when we, in turn, ask our members and school families to start LCEF savings accounts.  Now we get the joy of investing in building projects around the country while receiving rebates at Trinity.
  • New Member Focus Groups   12:15-2pm  Sunday.  If you’re a recent new member… the last 3 years or so…to get together with some of our Elders and our Outreach Team for  lunch and small group discussions that will give us an opportunity to get acquainted and see we’re doing at welcoming our new members into the Trinity family.
  • BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE: An 18-month campus revitalization stewardship campaign designed to fix up the rest of Trinity’s campus as we prepare our next senior and for our second century of ministry.  We’ve identified about $500,000 worth of “must-do” projects. God-willing, we’ll be able to  receive some Historic Preservation Grant funding for some of our sanctuary and loggia restoration work.  The following are top-priority projects for “Bridget to the Future:
    • Campus Painting
    • Church Stained Glass Windows Sealing (exterior)
    • Sanctuary Sandstone Repair & Sealing (exterior)
    • Loggia Roof
    • Construct Maintenance Building
    • Christian Life Center (Gym)  A/C HVAC Units
    • Administrative and School Office Repurposing
    • Campus A/C HVAC
    • Magnolia Building Roof
    • Magnolia Building Updating for Rentals
    • Communications Systems – Phone/Intercom System
    • Audio Video Systems Church – Cameras & Sound
    • Audio Video Systems Fellowship Hall
    • IT Infrastructure – Server Relocation to NCC
    • Lights – Convert to LED across campus, repair, replace

Why are we combining “BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE” with OUR ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM? Presenting both programs together gives us an opportunity to think about the whole picture of our giving to the Lord’s work at Trinity.  Pick up a commitment card in church today or watch for one in this week’s mail.  Let’s Build  “A BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE!”

2016 Leadership NOMINATIONS for Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

The 2016 Nominations Committee, consisting of John Strandquest, Bob Gordon, David Tesch, Karen Arnett, and Mike Kunze have brought forth a slate of nominees for Leadership Council and the Elders Ministry Team.

On Leadership Council, two at large positions are to be filled to replace outgoing members Carolyn Burnette who served a two year term and Rocky Smothers who served a one year term in the at-large position following a 2-term commitment as the Congregational President.  Carolyn previously served Trinity by participating on the Evangelism board while Rocky has served in various capacities including serving on the Fellowship and Youth Boards.  Both have shown great commitment and love for Trinity and are to be commended for their continued service.  Both serve Trinity in many other capacities in addition to their elected positions.

Nominations for the two vacant Member at Large Positions will serve a 2-year term beginning in July 2016 through the end of June 2018.  The nomination committee brings forth Gregg Yawman and Tim Norris to fill these positions.  Both Gregg and Tim have prayerfully considered the responsibilities and have committed to serve if it be the will of the congregation to select them.  Leadership Council meets at least once per month and acts on behalf of the congregation with the authority to conduct and perform all acts and affairs of the church.

Typically, the Elders Ministry Team fluctuates in size depending upon the needs of the congregation and the desire of individuals to serve.  Following service to the Elder’s Ministry for two terms, Cal Wacker will be leaving the Elders Team as is Tim Norris who served two and a half terms.  We thank each of them for their faithful spiritual leadership at Trinity.

The nominations committee and Interim Pastor Martin have asked eight men to prayerfully consider participating in the Elders Ministry Team.  There are three Elders currently serving that have committed to serve an additional term including Ulysses Floyd, eligible for a third term, Steve Kerestes, eligible for a second term, and Bob Trapp who is also eligible for a second term. Additionally, there are five men who have prayerfully considered serving Trinity including Rocky Smothers, Lo Phillips, Jim Curtis, Rusty Stephens, and Ken Boggs.

Elders are elected to two year terms and outside of this annual election, any member in good standing can nominate another member of the church as a candidate by a written note to the Pastor or President, allowing the size of this ministry team to fluctuate as needed to support various church functions.  The primary responsibility of the Elders is Christian nurture to all members, to facilitate worship schedules and content, to assist with the Holy Sacraments during worship and to insure ushers, acolytes and all facets of worship are covered.  The Elders minister to, support and care for the senior pastor and staff of the office of Public Ministry, maintain the congregational role, maintain Christian discipline within the church, and maintain open communication with the Leadership Council.  The Elders Ministry Team is responsible for all aspects of spiritual leadership at Trinity.

These nominations are provided to you to prayerfully consider their participation in the Mission and Ministries of Trinity Lutheran Church and School.  Moreover, members of this congregation have full right to nominate additional members for Leadership Council or the Elders Ministry Team.  Please provide in writing any additional nominations to the Nominations Committee (John Strandquest jcjstrandquest@comcast.net or 407-496-6034).  Please insure that all nominees are aware of the nomination and are willing to prayerfully consider service to Trinity in the capacity of the position.

Vacation Bible School-It’s All A‘Bot Jesus!

July 25-29 right here on Trinity’s campus, we are expecting 80 children to spend 3-½ hours every day actively experiencing God’s love for them.  But, here’s the catch: The program does not run itself.  Oh, it’s an easy to execute program, but section leaders are essential for success.  Trinity has a weekly church attendance of 300+ but to-date, 2 (two) people have stepped forward to offer leadership assistance. WITHOUT LEADER COMMITMENT, WE CAN’T OFFER THIS SUMMER MINISTRY OUTREACH. Contact Deaconess Liz by May 15 (eborth@trinitydowntown.org or 407-488-1919 X 127) with your choice from the following positions:

  • Supply coordinator — Help collect needed supplies from congregation; shop on-line, or at a local grocery or craft store. You will begin immediately and continue through July 29.  Your time will be needed more the end of June and July and less in May and the first part of June.
  • Craft station leader –  Guide children in simple crafts that reinforce the point of the day. No need to think creatively until the  of June.
  • Snack station leader – Easy to serve.  You can be a shopper or not, but all you need to know how to do is make a grocery list! You begin serving the first part of July and will need to be availalble July 25-29 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Story Teller – Creative, drama, nice clear reading voice: all those talents or just a few. Prepare the first part of July and be at VBS every day 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Games station leader – Outdoorsy, fun, loud commanding voice, laughter and easy going. You don’t have to worry about anything until the second week in July.  Must be available all week July 25-29 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
