Jeff Website PictureAs I’ve tried to keep up with technology without ever getting close to the cutting edge, I never expected to be writing a blog.  I avoided computers until about 1988, when I finally saw one that could produce a document faster than I could type it and mimeograph it;  I had a “car phone” in 1990 before there were cell phones; I kept my calendar–and my Greek and Hebrew Bibles–on a PDA when Palm Pilots were the rage in the late 90s; I had a smart phone before I ever heard the word smartphone used; and I still keep my calendar, Bibles, contacts, email, etc., on my iPhone.  I can write my own fairly complex spreadsheet formulas and macros, and am generally pretty unafraid of productivity tools.

But I figured out some years back that I’m just old enough (born in 1956) to probably never have to create or even help develop a web page, and it is my fervent desire never to be pushed to actually do anything with my Facebook page.  I draw the line at Twitter, Instagram, and all the varieties of “social networking” that seem to occupy so much time for so many people.

However, when Pastor Billy kept at me about writing a blog, I began to soften.  It doesn’t require that I learn any new technology or carry any more equipment, and I don’t have to manage the site or any of that.

So here I am, writing a blog.  I’m actually excited about it, because I often think of things I’d like to share as I try to walk as a Christian in this world.  I don’t envision this blog as being about me or my opinions, but just a place to think out loud about what the Bible says and how that seems to interact with 21st century America.  I don’t imagine many folks will tune in, just some of the faithful folks of Trinity and probably some family.

Many thanks to Pastor Billy for setting this up, and for posting my 1980 seminary graduation photo with my bio!  I’ve attached one that, unfortunately, reflects more accurately the way I now look.

So, welcome!  I will do my best, with God’s help, to make this blog worth your reading time!
